Description

DESIGN.
' J. HEARLEY.
-' Shirt-Bosom.
No.10,966. Patented Dec,17,18 78,
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES H. MARLEY, OF NEWARK, NEIV JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A SHlRT-BOSOM.
Specification forming part of Design No. [0,966, dated December 17, 1878; application filed October 22, 1878.
[Term of patent '7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs H. ll/IARLEY, of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented a new Design for Shirt-Bosoms; and I do hereby declare that the following is afull, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification.
The nature of my design is fully illustrated in the accompanyingdrawing; and it consists in a shirt-bosom provided at or near the center with a row of open stitches, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, A represents a shirt bosom of any desired shape, and attached to a shirt, 1;, which may be made to open either in the front, back, or at either side. The bosom A is formed at or near the center with a plait, 0, made by doubling the goods, and in this plait is a row, a, of open stitches, similar in appearance to the well-known hemstitehes. This row of open stitches is made from the doubled edge of the goods without injury to the fabric, and it makes the shirtbosom present a neat and handsome appearance.
It is obvious that I may make more than one row of these open stitches in the shirtbosom; hence I do not confine myself to a single row, but include one or more rows in my design. v
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The design for a shirt-bosom consisting, essentially, of the central plait, O, and vertical row of open-work or hem-stitching a, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES H. MARLEY.
Witnesses:
HORACE HARRIS, A. O. JENKINS.
