W. BARKER. Cuff.
No.10,500. Patented Feb. 26,1878
We @Pm @w UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM BARKER, OF WEST TROY, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A CUFF.
Speciication forming part of Design N o. 10,500, dated February 26, 1878 application led January 14, 1878. [Term of patent 3% years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BAKKER, of West Troy, county of Albany, and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Oui for Ladies and Gentlemens Vear, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.
Figure 1 is a plan view of a cuii' constructed in accordance with my new design 5 and Fig. 2, a similar View, showing a dii'erent curve in the central raised portion. Fig. 3 is a section upon line x x of Fig. l, and Fig. 4 a section upon line a: of Fig. 2.
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying drawings; and consists in a cuff having curved or circular lines of stitching lengthwise of the cuff.
A represents the cuit', and B represents the curved lines of stitching.
I am aware that cuffs have been stitched lengthwise near the center; but such stitching was in straight lines, and was m ade to secure different parts ofthe cuff together; and I am also aware that curved lines of stitching have been made to secure the outer edges of the cui together; and I make no claim to straight lines of stitches in connection with a seam or otherwise, nor to curved lines at the edges ofthe cuff to secure such edges together.
My cuff is constructed in any form and in the usual manner, except that lengthwise of the cuffl I make curved or circular lines of stitching between the outer lines of stitching at the edges of the cui, and, preferably, quite near the center of the cuff, and conforming, in some measure, to the contour of the cuii. These curved lines are for ornamentation, and have no necessary connection with a seam in the cuif. These circular or curved lines may be in white or in colors; but I do not limit my claim to colors, nor consider them an essential element in my design.
Vhat I claim as my invention is- The herein-described design for a cuff', consisting of the plain portion A and the rib B, bordered by the rows of stitching, and curved between the stitching of the outer edges of the cuff, as shown in the accompanying draw- Ing.
In witness whereof I have hereto set my hand this 29th day of December, 1877.
WILLIAM BARKER.
