UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JOHN E. MILLER, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR GLASSWARE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,727, dated June 18, 1878; application filed June 8,1878. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J oHN E. MILLER, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Design for Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying engraving, illustrating my invention as ap-- plied to various articles of table-ware.
My invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of glassware; and consists in the shape or configuration produced by arranging a series of two or more faces around a common center, as upon the stem or foot of a bowl, upon an ornamental knob thereon, or in like position where ornamentation is desired, and this whether other sh apes, such as fluting, &c., be employed therewith or not.
In the engraving, a indicates the foot, and b the stem, of an article of glassware, which may be a comport, salver, pitcher, goblet, or any other desired article. The stem b is ornamented by a series of three or more faces, 0, arranged to inclose the stem or like part, to which may be added, if desired, head-dresses or tiaras, pendants, &c., and the balance of the article may be plain or fluted, as preferred. 6 indicates faces arranged, as specified, to form a knob or ornamental projection, and where the article is provided with a handle or handles, other faces may be added to complete the finish and give uniform effect.
The efl'ect of the design may be heightened by etching or frosting the group of faces wherewith the article is ornamented.
The essential features of my design are a series of faces grouped or arranged about a common center, or in such near relation thereto as to produce the same effect.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a design for glassware, a series of faces grouped around a common center, or in such relation to each other as to produce a similar effect, substantially as shown and specified.
In testimony whereof I, the said JOHN E. MILLER, have hereunto set my hand.
JOHN ERNEST MILLER.
