Description

DESIGN.
T. B. ATTERBURY.
Glass-Ware.
No. 10,643. Patented April 23,1878,

UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
THOMAS E. ATTERBURY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FORGLASSWARE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,643, dated April 23, 1878; application filed April 12, 1878.
[Term of patent 31} years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS B. ATTERBURY, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new, useful, and Improved Design for Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following to be'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 illustrates my design as applied to a shallow dish with cover, such as a butterdish. Fig. 2 represents the design as applied to a sugar-bowl, and Fig. 3 the design as ap-- plied to a spoon-holder.
Like letters refer to like parts wherever they occur.
My invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of glass and similar ware; and consists in a configuration produced by forming the article in the shape of a melon, or section thereof, or with melon-shaped flutes, and combining therewith a leaf or leaves, preferably arranged thereon or therewith as a finish.
I will now proceed to describe my design, so that others may produce the same or its equivalent.
In the drawing, a indicates the bowl, which may or may not be provided with a cover, I). To the whole article I give the general form of a melon, or section thereof, by means of a series of flutes, c, the figure being arranged either on end or on its side, accordingly as a deep or shallow dish is required. The footstem or base of the figure I compose of a series of leaves (of the same or different varieties, as preferred) arranged symmetrically, as at d, and where the article is a covered dish or closed vessel a series of leaves or a single leaf may be arranged either on this cover, or partly thereon, as shown at e.
\Nhere knobs or handles are desired or required, I prefer to make them in accordance with the general design, as shown at f, though acorns, flowers, vines, or other ornamental figures may be substituted therefor.
Having thus indicated the scope and nature of my invention, what I claim as a design for glass and similar ware is The form or configuration produced by combining an article having melon-flutes with a leaf or series of leaves symmetrically arranged thereon, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I, the said THOMAS B. ATTERBURY, have hereunto set my hand.
THOS. B. ATTERB URY.
