Specification forming part of Design No. 10,731, dated June 25, 1878 application filed June 17, 1878.
[Term of patent 3;} years] To all whom it may qmcer'rtb Be it known that I, HENRY FRANZ, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Design for Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an elevation of an article of glassware, illustrating my design. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged section.
My invention relates to the ornamentation of articles of glassware, such as howls, nappies, creams, sugars, pitchers, 8.10.; and consists in forming the article with alternate fluted surfaces and surfaces made up of globular or rain-drop projections, whereby a novel and pleasing efl'ect is produced.
In thedrawing,Arepresentsacream-pitcher, ornamented in accordance with my design, a, indicating the flutes, which may be flat, eoncaye, or couvex,.as desired, the preference being given by me to convex flutes. Alternating with the flutes a are surfaces b, made up of aseries of points, mainly of an elongated globular or rain-drop form. The exact arran geinent of alternate flutes and raised globular surfaces shown is not material; but the essential feature of the design is a combination of plain surfaces or flutes and bands or strips of globular or rain-drop projections, which produce a similar esthetic eifect.
Having thus described my invention, what. I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Pat cut, is-
As a design for glassware a series of fluted surfaces and globular or rain-drop projections, arranged and combined to produce the ell'ect specified.
In testimony whereof I, the said.HENRY FRANZ, have hereunto set my hand.
