BELT-LOOP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 27, 1911.
Application filed September 3, 1910. Serial No. 580,435.
T o all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, MATHIAS J. BRACKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Little Falls, in the county of Morrison and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Loops, of which the following is a specication.
This invention relates to belt loops and is primarily designed to provide one of the above class which may be easily and quickly attached to the trousers for use, the same being constructed in a simple and eicient manner and thereby producing a device which can stand much wear.
With the above and other objects in view, this invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a rear view of the device illustrating the pin member in its engaged position. F ig. 2 is a longitudinal section disclosing more clearly the detail construction of the present invention; Fig. 3 is a perspective illustrating how the invention appears before applying to the garment. Fig. l is a view illustrating how the device is attached or secured to the garment.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the material from which the body of the belt loop is made, the same consisting of leather, fabric or other materials such as is desired. Each end of the body l is reinforced by being provided with metallic reinforcing tips or caps 2 and 2 which are pressed on the material so as to bind. One side of the tip or cap 2 is provided with a pair of parallel slots so as to form a binding or retaining strip 3 intermediate the slots. A pin or retaining member 4 which is notched at its larger end is inserted under the binding or retaining strip 3 until the latter engages in the notched portion of said pin. The portions of the tip 2 on each side of the binding strip are forced downwardly at the insertion of the pin so as to bind upon the body and thus exert a greater binding pressure for retaining said tip or cap to said body. The cap or tip on the opposite extremity of the body is provided with a single curved slot 5 and the material on one side of said slot is forced upwardly to form a guard for the point of the pin while the opposite side is slightly depressed on the body. By this construction the pin point is more easily inserted besides forming a further binding means for retaining the said tip to the body.
In applying the belt loop to the trousers or other wearing apparel the pin is passed into and out of the garment and after a tension is put upon the body l, the pin point is inserted in the opening provided in the cap or tip 2. The approximate length of the belt loop when in a belt holding position is the distance between the inner edges of the strengthening or reinforcing tips. It will be observed that by constructing a belt loop of the above description the reinforcing end will retain the body of the loop in a taut position thus producing a good effect upon the trousers or other wearing apparel to which the same may be applied.
Having thus fully described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
In a device of the class described, a belt loop comprising a body portion, reinforcing tips secured to said body portion, one of said tips having a retaining strip, a retaining member provided with a notched portion adapted to be engaged by said retaining strip, a pin guard formed in the other of said tips by slitting said tip and raising a portion of the tip on one side of said slit, said raised portion being adapted to engage said pin, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MATI-IIAS J. BRACKE.
