To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, lhniarin' Finnii, a citizen of the lliiited States, residing at Grand Saline, in the county of Van Zandt and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful improvements in lVrenchcs, ot". which the following is a specification, reference being had to the acconipanyinp` drawings.
This invention relates to improvements in quick adjusting wrenches and has for its object to provide a device of this character ol' extreme simplicity, and one which is very elicicnt in practical use and may be produced at a low cost.
A further object of my invention is to provide a wrench comprising a shank and stationary jaw, a movable ja f' adjustable on4 the shanle and nieans for rigidly locking the'niovable jaw in its adjusted position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the novel features of construction and the combination and arangeinent of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- `Figure l is a perspective view of a wrench embodying` my improvements; Fig. Q is a longitudinal section of the saine; and Fig. Sis a section taken on the line 3--3 of 2.
Referring in detail to the drawing 5 designates the shank of the wrench which is preleraliily of rectangular forni and is provided upon onev end with a handle portion 6. ythis handle portion, however, comprises but one-half of the entire handle of the wrench, the other portion thereof being a sepa 'ate clement 7 which is suitably fixed tothe handle portion (i by means of nails, screws, or similar fastening devices.

The lower end of this last named portion of the rplate is slightly lient or flanged, as indicated at 15. From the foregoing description, it will be understood that the device may he operated with the use of but one hand, the operator grasping the handle and simply pressing upon the spring element with his thumb and then moving the yoke and the jaw 1l which is carried thereby with the same digi-t.
lVhile l have described a. preferable form of my improved wrench, it will be obvious that it may also be manufactured in many other desired forms without departing from.'y
the essential feature involved therein. Many other minor modifications 'in the forni and proportion of the various parts may also be resorted to without sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
Having thus described the invention whatis cla iined is:
"lhe herein described wrench comprising a lshank having a sta Aionary jaw formedon one end thereof and a handle on its other end, said shank also having rack teeth of its faces, a movable ja w on said shank including a yoke member embracing the wrench `shank, said jaw having teeth formed thereon for engagement with the teeth of the shank, the intermediate portion of said yoke member being inclined with relation to the opposed tace of the wrench shank, and a resilient locking,r plate having one end loont around one edge of the intermediate port-ion of the. yoke member und rigidly secured thereto, seid plate extending upon the outer lince of Said yoke member and engaging closely thereon, and bent over the other edge of' Suid yoke ineinbe-i and disposed between the intermediate portion of the saine and said wi'eneli shank, said last named portion of' the looking platte normally engaging closely with the Wrench shank and Spacing the intermediate inclined portion of the yoke member therefrom, said resilient locking plate yieldiiigly holdingi the teeth of the movable )uw in engagement With the teeth of Said shank.
