To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, OSCAR Hmonn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Spinning Toys, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to spinning toys and the object of my improvement is to provide a hollow spinning toy or top adapted to hold candy, a liquid or other similar articles, and composed of a transparent substance to expose to view the article or articles contained therein, and a means for spinning such toy. I attain these objects by means of the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my device taken on the line 11 in Fig. 2; Fig. .2 is a top view of the same; and, Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the bottom portion of the same taken on the line 3-8 in Fig. 1.

Similar numerals of reference indicate similar parts throughout the several views.

The C-shaped handle member 4 of my improvement is composed of any suitable substance, such as sheet metal or celluloid, and may be out in one piece and formed substantially as illustrated, having the recesses 5 formed to support the spinning member of the device and the rings 6, through which a thumb and finger of the operator may be inserted to support and operate the handle, formed on the end portions of such handle member.

The spinning member of my device is preferably composed of the hollow body portion 7 and the cap portions 8 and 9 secured to such body portion in a suitable manner, such as that hereinafter described. The hollow body portion 7, having the threaded neck 10 provided with the opening 11 formed on its to portion and the threaded neck 12 provide withthe opening 13 on its bottom portion, is preferably composed of a transparent substance, such as transparent glass, to expose to view the article or articles contained therein. The curved circular flange 11 is formed at the juncture of the threaded neck 10 and the top of the hollow body portion and extends toward the center of such hollow body portion. The shape and width of such curved circular flange may be varied without departing from my invention.

The cap portion 8 is preferably composed of metal but may be made of transparent glass or other transparent substance, and is provided with the conical point 14 formed on its top surface and with the threads 15 to engage and fit the threaded neck 10. The cap portion 9 is also preferably composed of metal but may be made of transparent glass or other transparent substance, and is provided with the short stem 16 terminating in the point 17 and with the threads 18 to engage and fit the threaded neck 12. However the hollow body portion 7 may be continued on to a point similar in shape to the point 17 to take the place of the cap portion 9 with its pointed stem.

This improvement is designed to be both entertaining and instructive. The hollow body portion 7 maybe used empty or it may be filled or partly filled with candy, a liquid or any suitable substance and the cap portions 8 and 9 secured in positions thereon to assemble the spinning member. A string (not shown) is wrapped on the step 16 and may be extended upon a portion of the conical surface of the hollow body portion 7, a thumb and finger of the operator are inserted in the rings 6 of the yieldable handle 1 and the spinning member laced therein with the conical points 1 1 am: 17 in the recesses 5 of such handle, and the string pulled off from such spinning member in the manner usually employed in spinning the ordinary top. The spinning member may be allowed to spin in the handle, or by spreading the handle as indicated by the dotted lines 19 in Fig. 1 it may be dropped or set upon a table or other object, with either end upward, and allowed to spin.

WVhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A spinning toy comprising a C-shaped handle made of yieldable material, a ring on each end of said C-shaped handle by which the latter is supported and operated, and a spinning member removably secured in said C-shaped handle.

2. A spinning toy comprising a C-shaped handle made of a yieldable material and having a ring on each of its end portions by which it is supported and operated and a spinning member composed of a hollow transparent body portion provided with a supporting point on its bottom portion and a cap having a supporting point on its top portion removably secured to said hollow transparent body portion.
