Description

J. NBUMAN. TROUSERS BELT PASTENBR.
APPLICATION IILED JAN. 14,1910.
. 988, 1 34. Patented Mar. 28, 1911.
UNITED STATES PAT QFFIQFJ.
JACOB NEUMAN, OF BALTIMORE, 111A? LAND.
TROUSERS-BELT FASTENER.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, JACOB NEUMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Baltimore, State of Maryland, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Belt Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to belt retaining devices for trousers, and has for an object to provide a device of this character which can be conveniently applied to the waistband of the garment and positioned with respect to the fly of the garment to receive the tongue of the buckle on the belt and to hold the belt or the meeting end portion thereof at a point immediately in front of the fly from working upwardly away from the garment.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character that can be manufactured at a relatively low cost and which will be constructed with a view of ofiering sufficient flexibility and elasticity to the structure of the article that will warrant its bending readily to accommodate the tongue of the buckle and to allow for its being folded upon itself so that its eye portion can be concealed between the fly portions of the garment when the belt is not in use.
In the drawings, forming a portion of this specification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views :-Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a pair of trousers showing my improved belt-retaining device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing a belt applied to the trousers and showing, the tongue of the buckle operatively engaged in the eye of the device. Fig. 8 is a detail perspective view of the device. Fig. 4: is a similar view of a slightly modified form of my invention.
For the purpose of a clear illustration of my improved belt-retaining device I have illustrated in the accompanying drawing a portion of a pair of trousers which are indicated at 1, the said trousers being formed to provide the usual waistband portion 2 and Specification of Letters .Patent.

provided at such waistband portion with loops 3 for receiving the belt 8 as shown particularly in Fig. 2 of the drawing. The belt 8 is of the usual or any approved well known construction and it is formed at one end to provide a series of adjusting perforations 11 which are adapted to be engaged by the tongue 10 of the buckle 9.
To prevent the meeting ends of the belt from working upwardly away from the garment I secure to the said garment one end of a small flexible strip of material 4;, the opposite end of the said strip being extended through the fly portions 7 of the trousers and at this end the said strip is provided with a metal reinforcing eyelet 5 for receiving the said tongue 10 of the buckle. After the tongue of the buckle has been passed through the eye of the strip l the free end of the belt can be inserted in the loops 8 thereby entirely concealing the article.
The construction of the article is such that it can be manufactured at a relatively low cost and conveniently applied to garments without changing the construction thereof and its use aflords means whereby the belt can be accurately positioned on the garment and securely anchored thereto for the purpose described.
In the modified form of my invention shown in Fig. 4 I employ a single strip of material 13 which is folded upon itself and formed at the fold of the portions to provide for the reception of an eye or ring member 12. The folded portions of the strip may be stitched together or otherwise suitably secured to each other, as is obvious. I preferably form the strips 4: and 13 respectively of leather or other such flexible and somewhat elastic material that will permit holding of the strip so that its eye portion may be tucked between the fly portions of the trousers when the belt is not in use. Furthermore, by forming the strips of flexible material they may be accurately adjusted so that their tongue-receiving eyes can be conveniently positioned to receive the tongues of the buckles as will be understood.
I claim: With a vertical eye normally extending out- The combination with it pair of trousers, wardly from between the fly flaps in a posi- 10 of a belt fastener comprisingfzt stripdof flexition to receive the tongue of the belt buckle. ble material secured at one 0 its en s to the Waistband of the trousers and disposed hori- JACOB NEUMAN' zontally thereon and foldable to be concealed WVitnesses: between the fly flaps of the trousers when M. DAVID, not in use and provided at its opposite end HARRY COHEN.
