CHARLES-WILDER, OF SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA.
PLAYING-CARD HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 14, 1911.
Application filed June 25, 1909. Serial No. 504,393.
To all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, CHARLES WILDER, a citizen of Canada, residing at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, have invented a new and useful Improved Playing-Card Holder,.' of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to a playing oard holder for holding and displaying cards, and to be used more particularly by cripples with only one hand, etc, the object being to provide a device of the character described that is easily attached to a table or other object and further is simple and economical of construction and durable. I attain these objects by the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a front elevational view thereof, and 2 is a side elevational view.
Similar characters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views. The holder is composed of a clamp 1 and card retainer 2. The clamp is preferably made as shown but may be varied in con-- struction.
The card retainer is composed of a plurality of members 2" with beveled edges as shown best in Fig. 2 so the cards may be inserted between them without difliculty, and are shaped as shown best in Fi 1. These members 2 are clamped and held together by a clamp 2" which is provided with two bolts 2 and 2 running through each member and holding them in their relative positions. Each member 2 is set a little to one side of the former member, allowing a portion on each successive one after the'first to be seen. Clamp 2 is also provided With a wing 2 adapted to fit between the two wings 1 of the clamp sothat when the thumb nut 1 is tightened the card retainer 2 is held in any position desired by the friction of the members 1 and 2. It will readily be seen that this device is readily clamped to a table or stand and the frictional adjustment allows the card retainer to be adjusted to a position suitable to the player, and that the cards may be inserted successively bet-ween the members 2 of the card retainer and the clamp 2 causes the cards to retain the position in which they are inserted.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
1. A playing card holder, comprising a plurality of like members with beveled edges and each'successive one offset a little to one side of the former one and a clamp for hold-' ing said members in said relative position to each other, all substantially as set forth.
2. In aplaying card holder, the combination of a plurality of like members with beveled edges at their. top, each successive one offset a little to one side of the former one and a clamp provided with two bolts and adapted to hold said members in said relative positions to each other, means for holding said clamp in an adjusted position, and means for attaching said holder to a table, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presenceof two subscribing w1tnesses.
CHARLES WILDER.
