Description

- 4 This invention relates to animproved de-" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE. JOHN EDGAR BASS, OF WILLESDEN GREEN, ENGLAND.
' SKEWER-EXTRACTOR.
Patented Dec. 5, 1905.
Application filed March 14, 1905. Serial No; 250,072-
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN EDGAR BAss,'a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 27 Churchill road, Willesden Green, in the county of Middlesex, England, have invented a new and useful Improved skewer-Extractor, of which the following is a specification.
i vice for withdrawing the skewers usually empioyed in joints of meat, in game, poultry, and the like; and it consists in a device of a simple I character whereby the skewer may be tightl held and its withdrawalfacilitated. V
In the accompanying. drawings, Figures 1 and 2 illustrate one form of the device constructed according to my invention, the views being respectively a side and an end elevation.
My improved device consists ofa metalv plate a, in which is pierced a hole I) of such a size as to permit a ready passage for the wooden skewerb, and a handle 0, to which the metal plate is attached. The plate'a is preferably freely mounted at the one extremity of the handle 0 and the latter formed, as illustrated in Fig. 1, with an abutment c. In the event of the end of the skewer being embedded in the meat the abutment serves as a support for the plate to permit of the latter being passed about the skewer. The extremity of the handle may also be formed with a hook 0 if desired, for withdrawing metal skewers, which are usually formed with an eye.
To withdraw a skewer, the plate a is passed about the skewer b and a pull exerted upon the handle 0, whereupon the opposite edges withdraw the skewer will' have the .efiect of.
increasing the grip thereon and a firm hold maintained.
, It will be obvious that themetal plate a may be mounted on a handle of a form other than that illustrated and that it may be either freely or rigidly attached thereto; but by allowing freedom of movement to the metal plate a more direct pull on the skewer may be obtained.-
' What I claimas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a skewer-extractor, the combination,
with a handle,.ofa metal plate pierced with a hole adapted to receive the shank of a skewer, said plate being mounted to move freely on said handle.
2. In a skewer-extractor, the combination,
, with a handle, of a metal plate pierced with ahole adapted to receive the shank of a skewer, said plate being mounted to move freely on said handle, and an abutment, rigid with said handle, adapted to contact with. and support said plate when the same is being passed about the shank of the skewer. r
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. JOHN EDGAR BASS.
Witnesses: I y
