WlRE-STRETCHER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 763,549, dated June 28, 1904.
Application filed April 2, 1904. Serial No. 201,283. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, RICHARD H. FERGUSON and LOUIS N. PREVOST, citizens of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in WVire Stretchers, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in wire-stretehers.
The object of the invention is to provide a cheap, simple, and efiicient device for stretching wires.
By the devices now in general use and which are operated by hand only one wire can be stretched at one operation, whereas by the use of our present invention two wires may be stretched at the same time.
Other features of the invention will be fully set forth in the following specification and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation of our improved stretcher in position ready for use. Fig. 2 is a front elevation showing the position of the wires when gripped by the shoe-levers. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the hand-lever, the shoe-levers being removed. Fig. i is a top plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is an inverted plan view of one of the shoe-levers, showing the serrated face of the shoes.
Similar reference-numerals designate like parts throughout the several views of the drawings.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, 1 designates the hand-lever, having an aperture 2 near its upper end and a shoulder 3 below said aperture, the upper surface 4 of said shoulder being serrated.
To the upper end of the hand-lever 1 are pivoted two shoe-levers 5, provided with shoes 6 on their lower ends, the lower surfaces of which latter are serrated at 7 to correspond to the serrated surface 4 of theshoul'der 3. These levers 5 are pivoted to the hand-lever by a bolt 8 and held in position with a nut 9 on said bolt.
In operating the device a block 10 may be used to prevent defacing the ceiling by the upper end of the shoe-levers 5, such as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. In this instance the block 10 is placed with one end against the ceiling-blocks 11, which are of usual construction, and the upper surface against the ceiling. The ends of the shoe-levers 5 are placed in a cut-out 12 of the block 10 and the wires 13 placed between the shoulder 3 and the shoes 6 and the hand-lever 1 forced in the direction the wire is to be pulled, causing the shoes 6 to clamp the wires 13 against the shoulder 3. When the wires are stretched sufliciently, they are clamped and held between the ceiling-blocks 11 in the usual manner.
While we have shown and described two levers, it is obvious a bifurcated lever may be employed in lieu thereof, the prongs of which would come astride the upper end of the handlever. I
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is v 1. A wire-stretcher comprising a hand-lever having two shoulders on opposite sides near one end, and means pivoted to said handlever above the shoulders and adapted to clamp the wires upon the said shoulders.
2. A wire-stretcher comprising a hand-lever, and two levers pivoted to said hand-lever.
3. A wire-stretcher comprising a hand-lever having a shoulder near one end, and two levers pivoted to said hand-lever above the said shoulder.
4:. A wire-stretcher comprising a hand-lever having two shoulders on opposite sides near one end, and two shoe-levers pivoted to said hand-lever on opposite sides above the shoulders and each having a shoe on the lower endthereof adapted to clamp the wire upon the said shoulders.
5. A wire-stretcher comprising a hand-le ver having a shoulder near one-end, the upper surface of said shoulder being serrated, and two levers pivoted to said hand-lever above the said shoulder, the lower ends of said levers being serrated.
In testimony whereof we aifix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
