CLAMPING DEVICE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NAPOLEON PIQUETTE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Dollar Bay, in the county of Houghton and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamping Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, whichform a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clamping devices for attachment to tables, ledges, etc., for the purpose of holding work of various kinds.
The invention comprises various details of constructions and combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the application of my invention to a table. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the device removed from the table.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a clamping member having integral arms A projecting therefrom and parallel to each other and arranged in pairs with registering apertures B.
D designates al second clamping aw which is provided with flanges D upon the opposite longitudinal edges thereof. The clamping member D has also lugs E projecting from its opposite edges and apertured as at E for the reception of an adjusting bolt F. A similar adjusting bolt II is passed through registering apertures in corresponding arms A of the clamping member A and apertures A2 in the flanges D, thus affording means for adapting the clamping device to different thicknesses of tables, shelves or ledges to which it may be desired to apply the device. A cam lever, designated by let- Specication of Letters Patent.

ter Q, is pivotally mounted upon an adjusting bolt R which is adapted to be held in corresponding perforations S formed in the lugs S at one end of the clamping member D and the end of said member D adjacent to which the cam lever is mounted is cut away or recessed as at J to allow said lever to swing freely therethrough and against the under surface of the table, shelf or other object to which the clamping device may be held. It will be noted that the member A has a horizontally projecting extension T, the opposite longitudinal edges of which are slightly curved or bent toward the clamping member D and serving as frictional means for securely holding the clamping members upon the table or other object to which the device is applied. i
Mounted upon the swiveled pin I is a jaw I having ears I2 with apertures I3 therein through which a pivotal adjusting bolt L passes which also passes through the ears L upon the clamping jaw L2. At one end of the jaw I are ears L3 projecting at right angles therefrom and apertured for the reception of an adjusting bolt L4 upon which a cam lever L5 is mounted, affording means foi` holding the two clamping jaws I and L2 frictionally against the work to be held.
The application of my invention will be readily understood. By the provision of the two clamping members A and D, the device may be adjusted to shelves or tables of different thicknesses and the cam lever Q. swung upon its pivot to cause the device to be securely held in place while the work may be held by the clamping jaws I and L2 by a similar fastening means consisting of the clamping lever L5 which may be thrown frictionally against the under surface of the jaw L2, thus causing the two jaws to be securely held in clamping relation with each other.
lvVhat I claim to be new is z- A work holding device comprising two clamping members, one of which has arms projecting at right angles therefrom and perforated, adjusting bolts mounted in said perforations and having a horizontally projecting portion designed to engage over the upper surface of the table, the other member provided with apertured flanges, adjusting bolts, mounted in registering apertures In testimony whereof I hereunto aix my in said arms and ianges, a Cam lever pivotsignature in the presence of two Witnesses. all connected to one o said members a air 1 of 5(fzlamping jaws swivelly conneetedtopone NAPOLIJON PIQUETTE' 5 of said members, and means for holding the lVitnesses:
