Description

(No Model.)
E. L. MILLER &- P. BERG.
- MITER CLAMP.
No. 374,264. Patented-Dec. 6, 1887.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EDWARD L. MILLER AND FREDRICH BERG, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
MITER-CLAM P.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 374,264, dated December 6, 1887.
Application filed May 12, 1886. Serial No 201,937. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, EDWARD L. MILLER and FREDRIOH BERG, citizens of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Miter- Clamps, of which the following is a specification, to wit: I
This invention relates to an improvement in miter-clamps; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction and arrangement of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in our invention to make and use the same,we willnow proceed to describeits construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side view, and Fig. 2 is an edge view, of our device.
a represents the arms of the clamp, which are of any desired size or shape, and are hinged together at one end, as at a. At the other end these arms are provided with the pivoted clamps or heads I), having teeth or serrations b to engage the material.
On one of the legs in Fig. 1 is secured alateral arm, 0, on the end of which is an eccentric-lever, 0, bearing against the outer side ofthe other arm.
It will be understood that when a miter of 7 any two pieces of material is to be joined the parts are properly placed in position, the
clamping-heads placed on them, and the eccentric lever thrown back, which at once draws the arms together and holds the parts tightly clamped while being secured by nails or glue or in any way.
The tool is small and simple and is readily applied to any miter, no matter what the p.0- sition, and the clamping-heads being pivoted,
they conform at once to any angle needed, and
their teeth prevent any slipping. In some cases, also, we set off the clamp-heads at one side of the arms, as in dotted lines in Fig. 2, as this is often necessitated by the kind of work.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a miter-clamp, the combination, with two clamping-plates having lugs upon their rear sides, of bars pivoted together at or near one end and to the logs on the plates at their other ends, and a link pivoted to one of said bars, and an eccentric engaging with said link pivoted upon the other bar, substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof we aifix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
EDWARD L. MILLER. FREDRIOH BERG.
