SAW CLAMP.
Application led October 7, 1924. Serial No. 742,249.
To @ZZ whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, FRANCIS O. JUAIRE, a a citizen of the United States, residing at VViohita, in the county of Sedgwick and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such 'as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention provides means for holding a saw while filing and jointing the same, the device being simple in construction and effective in operation and adapted to be readily manipulated both when securing the saw and when releasing the same.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent and suggest themselves as the nature of the invention is understood.
-While the drawings illustrate an embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that in adapting the same to meet diiferent conditions and requirements, various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the nature of the invention.
Referring to the accompanying drawings forming a part of the specication,
Figure 1 is a front view of a saw clamp embodying the invention, parts being broken away,
Figure 2 is a sectional view on the line 2 2 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows,
Figure 3 is an enlarged sectional view on the line 3--3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a detail section on the line 4-4 of Figure 1,
Figure 5 is a top plan view of the clamp,
Figure 6 is a side view thereof,
Figure 7 is a view similar to Figure 6 of a modification, and
Figure 8 is a detail view on the line 8--8 of Figure 7.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and designated in the several views of the drawings by like reference characters.
The saw clamp comprises similar U- shaped frames 10, jaws 11 and 12, and operating means for operating and closing the jaws. One of the jaws, as 12, is fixed, and
is made fast to the inner or rear leg of the frames 10, whereas the jaw 11 is movable toward and away from the jaw 12 so as to clamp or release a saw as required.
An ear 16 projecting laterally from each inner leg is apertured to receive a suitable fastening whereby to secure the clamp when properly applied to a support. As shown most clearly in Figures 7 and 8, a hook bolt 17 may be employed for securing each of the frames 10 to a support 18.
Means for operating the movable jaw 11 comprise a lever 19 and a slide 20, the ends of which are forked to receive the bolts 13,. the forked ends being of wedge-shape as indicated at 21 to ride upon the inner or rear face of the outer legs of the frames 10 whereby to force the jaw 11 inward to clamp the saw between the two jaws. The pivot end of the lever 19 is of circular form and is provided with teeth 22 which are adapted to coact with openings 23 in the jaw 11 whereby to effect a longitudinal movement of the slide 20 when swinging the lever 19.
That is claimed is 1. A clamp of the class described having a fixed jaw and a movable jaw, means carrying said jaws and including bolts by which the movable jaw is slidably mounted, springs associated with said bolts to move the mov# able jaw away from the fixed jaw, and means operable to move the movable jaw toward the Xed jaw, said means being guided by able jaw away from the xed jaw, and said bolts. means operable to move the movable jaw 2. A clamp of the Class described having a 'COWlld the iXed jaw, Said means being bi- 10 fixed jaw and a movable jaw, means carryurcated at the ends, and said bolts being 5 ing said jaws and including bolts by which dSpOSeCl ill the bifurcations.
