UNITED STATLE S T OFFICEv GRADY W. GOBLE, 0F GREENSBORO, NORTH CAROLINA.
RECEP'IACLE FOR HOLDING MATCHES, TOOTHPICKS, OR THE LIKE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRADY WV. Come, a citizen of Greensboro, in the county of Guilford and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Receptacles for Holding Matches,
Toothpicks, or the Like; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and to the figures and letters of reference marked thereon.
This invention relates to improvements in receptacles for holding matches, toothpicks, etc., the object being to provide a receptacle from which a limited number only of the contained articles may be removed at a time, thus rendering the box or receptacle particularly Well adapted for use in public places.
To these ends the invention consists in certain novel details of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be now described and the particular features of novelty pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, wherein is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention-Fignre 1 is a perspective view of a receptacle constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view. Fig. 3 is a top plan v1ew.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
Referring to the drawings, the box consists of the panels or side pieces A suitably joined together forming a rectangular casing having a bottom B. This bottom piece B is preferably removably connected with the body portion in any suitable or preferred manner, in the present form illustrated the bottom being shown as a slide.
Extending inwardly and downwardly from the top of the side pieces A are panels or sections 0, shaped as shown and connected at their meeting edges and forming Specification of Letters Patent.

a hopper like top for the box having an opening D at the bottom thereof. The panels C it will be noted do not extend to the bottom of the box (see Fig. 2) a sufficient space being left to permit the passage of the articles contained in the box into the space below the opening in the hopper top, as will hereinafter be explained.
The width of the opening D at the bot tom of the hopper like top in both directions is slightly greater than the length of the articles contained in the box. In filling the box the bottom is removed, the box inverted and the articles placed in the box filling the space between the walls of the hopper like top and sides of the box. When turned right side up a slight shake of the box will cause a few of the articles to pass to the space below the opening at the bottom of the hopper shaped top. It will thus be seen that onl the articles at this opening can be with rawn, thus preventing waste and extravagant use of the articles.
It will, of course, be understood that the receptacle may be made of any suitable or preferred material and could be of different shape from that illustrated without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is- In a. box or receptacle, the combination with the sides, of the removable bottom, the top having inwardly and downwardly inclined panels fixed at the top to said sides and having an opening at the bottom thereof, the lower edges of the walls of the top extending to within such distance of the bottom of the box as to permit the passage of a single layer only of the articles held between the top and sides of the box into position to be withdrawn through the opening in the top of the box.
GRADY W. COBLE.
