CHARLEsT. FORD AND EDWARD TRASK, 0F SALEM MassAoHUsETTs.
Letters Patent No. 98,047, dated December 21', '1869; -antelvlatell .December 7 1869i The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, CHARLES T. FORD and ED- WARD TRASH, ot' Salem, in the county of Essex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new'aud improved Toy-Gun; anduve do herebv declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of' the saine, reference be-y ing had to the accompanying drawings, making apart of this specification, in which-v Figure l is a top view ofthe gun.
Figure 2 is a longitudinal section, as indicated by line n: :c of fig. 1,
Like letters in both ligures of the drawings indicate like parts.
Our invention has reference to a toy-gun for throwing torpedoes, peas, and other substances, and is in tended as an improvement upon that patented by us, March 16, 1869, andv consists in making a kei-f in the head ofthe plunger, and also in the breech ofthe gun, and fastening theelastic in` the same, thus dispensing with the nails'or pins, which are liable to hurt or injure the children, and requiring less time and expense vin applying the elastic.
A is the gun, having the kerf a eut in rounding or l vstraight across the breech of the gun, and ou a slant from the surface thereof, to receive and hold the loop of the elastic B.
Gis the plunger, having the kerf b cut in the head 0f it. Thus, by inserting the loop ot' the'elast-c vin the kerfa.,and thev ends of the same in the kerf b, the elastic will be secured withoutpins ory nails, and with less, time and expense; and at any time, it' the spring of the elast-ic or rubber should not be strong enough to impel the plunger with suiicient force to throw the torpedo or other substance, or if it should break, it can be easily tightened or replaced by another.
Dis the hole for letting out the stone after explosion of torpedo.
IHaving thus fully described ourinvention,
What we claim therein as new, aud desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The. ker's (t and b in the head ofthe plunger and l in the breech of' the gun,in combination with the elastic or rubber B, substantiallyas and for the purpose gravel or small A
