Letters Patent No.- 93,568, dated .August 10, 1869.

IMPROVEMENT 1N snaren-Beus.

The Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and making part of the same.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HIRAM VEAZEY, of East Hampton, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Connecticut, have invented: aV new and useful Improvement in Sleigh-Bells; and I declare the following to be a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference thereon, forming a part of this specification.

, One L. C; Chase, of Boston, Massachusetts, did, on the 14th day of May, 1861, obtain Letters Patentv of the United States for an improvement in sleigh-bells, and my invention is simply anl improvement thereon, which makes it necessary to first obtain the consent oi' the owners of said Chases patent before my improvement-can be made use of.

The bell is raised from the strap of Ia short pillar of metal e.

Upbn the bottom of this piller are twospurs, f j, which are driven down into the leather, when the rivet is headed, so as to hold the bell fast from turning.

These spurs are the `invention of said Chase, and I 4 am one ofthe owners of the Letters' Patent, but I have found, in working under said patent, ,that the attaching of the bell directly to the strap somewhat deadens the ling of the bell. My invention of the pillar entirely obviates thisv dioulty, and canses the bell to give forth a clear and inelodious ring,

I claim, as my invention-- The combination ofthe bell a, the pillar e, and the spurs j' f, all constructed and arranged 'as described, for the purpose described.
