Description

m tetta gaat eine.
Letters Patent No. 99,930, dated February 15, 1870.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the 'same To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS J. MGGEARY, of Newark, in the county oi' Essex, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Mode of Gasting and Putting up ruamental Gornices in Plaster Paris or Gypsum; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and tothe letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invention consists in cast-ing ornamental cornices for buildings, Sto., in separate sections, with ornamental attachments to the sections, and putting them in place with a leaf or other ornamental device, to serve as a covering for the joints of said sections.
F in the drawings, represents the main member of the cornice.
A B 0 are ornamental attachments cast in the same piece with cornice F.
D is the leaf or covering for the joints of the several sections, which, when attached, presents to the eye a cornice apparently solid.
E isa sectional view of the leaf or covering.
The advantages claimed for this over any Inode heretofore known are as follows: Fully one-half ofthe labor of putting up cornices in the old manner is saved. It makes a far more dura-A ble cornice, for, heilig cast in sections, it is not so liable to crack, and in case it is broken a new section can be insert-ed at one-fourth of the former costei' repairing broken cornices.
-Formerly the main member of the cornice, F, was run with a mold on the ceiling, and the ornamental attachments A, B, and G were cast in wax molds and attached to cornice F, thus differing very essentially from my method.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- An improved cornice cast in `sections with its orna mental parts, the sections being covered at their junctions by a leaf or other ornamental design, all as set forth..
Witnesses: THOS.`J. MGGEARY.
J AMES S. GRINNELL, HENRY N. MYGATT.
