IMPROVEMENT IN' FINGER-RINGS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Finger-Rings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear,`and'exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accon1' panying drawing, forming a part of this specification.
This invention relates to the manner of constructing and {in ishing stone-seal finger-rings, whereby they are rendered much more valuable and desirable than when made in the ordinary way, and consists in setting the stone entirely through the gold or other metal of which the ling may be made, and iinishing the stone and the metal on the inside iiush with each other, so that no cavity may be left for the 'lodgment of dirt, dust, soap, or other matter, as will be hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawingv Figure 1 representsva'side View of a stone-seal ring,
constructed according to my invention.'
Figure 2 is across-section through the line :1: z.
:Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Arepresents the gold or other metal of which the ring is composed, which is made, as regards its out# side, in the ordinary form.
B represents the stone seal, which is set in the solid metal with its inner side made on a circleto correspond with the circle of the ring and flush therewith, as seen at C, fig. 1.
I am aware that the head or seal-side of finger-rings has been perforated for the stone before; but in such cases a cavity isvleft around the stone 0n the inner side of the ring, which is extremely objectionable on account of its always being a receptacle ior dirt and soap, .besides causing more or less discomfort on the `finger, and rendering the removing of the ring for Washing or other purposes extremely diicult.
By passing the stone entirely through the ring, and finishing it on its inner side, so as to correspond with the ring according to ,my invention, al1 objections are obviated.
Having thus described my invention,
What I claim as new, anddesire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Finishing the stone of a nger-ring on a circle and flush with the inner side of the ring, substantially as and for the purposes herein shown and described.
The above specification of my invention, signed by me this 11th day vof March, 1869.
CHESTER S. FORD.
