' Letters Patent No. 95,823, dated October' 12, 1869.
IMPRVED DENTISTS GRINDING .AND POLISHING--WHEEL- The Schedule referred to in'these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN K. MERRICK, of Odell, in the' county of Livingston, and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvementin Dentists Grinding-Wheels; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', which will enable othersskilled in the art to make and' use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification. Y.
This invention relates to improvements in wheels for dentists use, for grinding and polishing teeth, designed I propose, therefore, to-construct these wheels of glass, as represented at A, making them smooth both on the face B and side A, the requirements being such as to provide for grinding both on the face and side,
and to provide for wearing them evenly ou the side A.
Imake, at the centre thereof, 'around the axial hole for supporting them on the mandrel or chuck, a depression or recess, G, forming aledge between which, and the periphery, the surface may be maintained in an even condition by judicious grinding;
In the bottom of the said recess C, I form another recess for the head of the pin or screw, for securing the wheel to the mandrel. E
I have found, also, that the dust worn off from these wheels forms an excellent polishing-powder, better than now used for polishing the rubber plates, which I propose to utilize for that purpose, whereby-a further-economy results from the use of these wheels..
