Description

@with n. tetra; gettati @ffice JQE. WIGGIN AND DANIEL e. CROSBY, or STONEHAM, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters Patent No. 63,346, dated M'aret 26, 1867.
IMPROVED HEEL-SHAVING GUARD.

T0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONGERN:
Be it known thatxwe, J. E. WIGGIN and DANIEL CROSBY, both of Stonehani, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improved Centre for Heel-Shaving Machine Guard; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
Nature.
The nature of our invention `consists in the application of the ball-andvsocket joint to the guard of heel-A shavingvmachines.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use our invention, we will proceed to describe its construction. and use.
Drawings.
Figure l is an elevation showing the guard A, and centre B, as it appears when working.
Figure 2 is an elevation showing the guard A attached to the heel of the shoe.
Figure 3 represents the centre.
Figure 4 represents a plan of the heel-guard and centro B.
Figure 5 is a section through the middle ofthe guard and centre. l
The guard A is made of any suitable metal, and in general of the shape represented in thc drawings, which agree in form with those used in connection with the heel-cutting machine patented by O. Gr. Gritchett, June 21, 1864. B represents a ccntreg the form ot' this centre is shown in section in rig. 5." Upon the end or" this centre the hall C is attached by the washer D, which is riveted firmly to the centre g the ball C is free to revolve independently of the other part of the centre. 4
The use ofour invention is obvious, as it takes the place of the centre in common use for this purpose. The advantage is this: the shoe is always kept in the proper relative position, so that the heel may be trimmed rapidly` with great precision and ease. I
What We claim as our invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
l. The combination nud'arrangement of the guard A and pin B, when the two are constructed substantially in the manner described.
2. We clniimthe device of the ball-and-socliet joint, when combined with the guard and centre of a heeltrimming machine.
J. E. WIGGIN, DANIEL Gr. CROSBY. Witnesses:
