TOALL WHOM IT vMAYCONCERN:
Be it known that I, CHARLES G. SHORT, of Osgood, in the county of Ripley, and State of Indiana, have invented anew and useful improvement in Automatic Fly-Brushes and Fans and I doY hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description vof the same, reference being-had to-tle annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figare 1 is a perspective view.
Figure 2 is a vertical section; and
Figure Sis a transverse sectionof the revolving arm.
The sameletters are employed in the indication of identical parts in all the figures.
My improvement consists in the construction of therrevolving arms, providing for their extension, and in `the mode of attaching them`to the vertical shaft actuated by clock-work. Y
A is the case in which .the mechanism is contained for actuating the clock-work. Theclock-work consists of a coiled spring, B. n the shaft around which the spring is coiled, and which is turned by it, is a pinion, C, which drives the spur-wheel D, which drives the pinion E. On the same shaft with the latter `is the bevel-wheel F, driviiig the bevel-pinion G, lon the foot of the vertical shaft H. H is the cross-head on'the end of `the shaft. 0n the upper face of the cross-head on each side are recesses into which are received the hooksK", attached to the arm K. These hooks, when inserted, are held in place lby the screw-head I, screwing on to the end of the shaft, and resting on said hooks. The arms K are formed in two pieces, K and K1. The former has on its under side a dove-tailed groove, into which slides the dove-tailed extension arm Kd The fringe L hangs from the side of the arm K, and from the bottom of the extension arms. The length of the sweep .of the arm may be thus regulated as required. One or more arms may be used. Fans may be attached to the ends of the arms. The number Vof the arms 'may be increased if desired.
What I claim as my invention, fand desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination and arrangement of the shaft H, automatically actuated by clock-Work, and the cross-head H', screw-head I, and the extension arms K Ki, attached adjustably to the crossshead by hooks K, substantially 4 as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony Whereof,-I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CHARLES C. SHORT. Witnesses J. W. Cmvnn, THos. McMUL'LIN.
