TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, J. V.,D. PATCH, of Brownville, in the county of Nemaha, and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and improved Clock-Escapement; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same. reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
The drawing is a front View of my invention.
' The'object of this invention is to obtain an equable and easy actiomof the pallets of a cloek-escapcment, or verge so called, and with the minimum power and friction.
The invention consists of a pendulum-rod, A, hearing the pallets a and b, aflixed thereto in such a mannerthat they will act laterally upon the verge-wheel B,-instead of on the top of the same, as usually made.
It further consists of the spring d aiiixed to the pendulum-rod A, and between the pallets shown, by the flexible and elastic nature ofwhich spring the pallets are made to operate more equably and easily upon the verge-wheel. The spring d is suspended in the split stud e, afiixed in the plate Gr.
I am aware that the pallets of pendulum-rods have been made to operate laterally upon the verge-wheel,
(see patent granted to William Linden, November 26, 1867,) and therefore" do not claim such a device broadly; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is- The laterally-acting pallets a and I), spring d, and pendulum-rod A, all substantially as shown and described, in combination with the vergewheels B and pendulum C of a clock, all as and for the purpose set forth.
