Letters Patent No. 82,302, dated September 22, 1868.-

IMPROVED WHIP-GOAD.

To ALL WHoM 1T MAY CONCER'N:

Be it known that I, FnEDEnIcK FLANDEBS, of Franklin, in the county of Merrimack, and State Vof New 'Hampshirm have invented a new and improved Whip-Goed; and I do hereby declare that the following is n full and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.

Thisrinvention consists of a metallic tip, which is placed upon the end of a whip or stick, and is provided` with a sharp spur or point for the purpose of being usedas a goad, as will be fully described hereinafter.

other suitable fastening. p The upper end of the tip B is provided upon the inside with screw-threads, as shown in iig. 2, into which tits closely the hollow screw C, which latter is provided with a. head tting the larger opening of the wrench A', by means of which letter it is readily inserted or removed,when desired. v

The screw, C, is also provided with a small hole through its upper end, through which projects the point of the spur c, which latter is provided with a head snciently large to prevent it from passing entirely through.

The inside of the hollow screw C is also Aprovided with threads,into which t .the corresponding threads of the small screw D, which is provided with a head fitting the smaller opening of" the wrench A.

, .From this description, the operation' of my invention will be readily understood.

The tip having been once attached to a whip or stick, the spur may be allowed to remain permanently upon it or not, as may be desired. If it is desired to remove it,` the proper opening of the wrench A' is placed upon the head of 'the screw C, by turning which former it may be easily removed. The screw, D, is then removed in a similar manner, when, by holding the screw C in arprope position, the spur will drop out.

The wrench and spurv may be carried in the pocket, and used as'occasion may require.

It almost invariably happens that animals that cannet be easily quiekened with the whip are usually sensitive vand quick to respond to the spur. In most cases Illy-invention will be found to be an eil'cctual cure for coniirmed habits ef laziness. v

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure byLetters Patent, is-

The whip-stock-A, metallic tip B, hollow screw C, spur c, and screw D, when combined and arranged as ,and for lthe purpose described.
