To all whom "it may concern:

Be it known that I, BENNO VOM EIGEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bag-Frames and Hinge Connections Therefor; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.

This invention relates, generally, to improvements in bagframes; and the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel construction of bag-frame and hinge-construction therefor, all with a view of providing a bag-frame and especially the two frame-sections of the frame, the hingemembers of which form integral parts of said frame-sections, and said hinge-members, in the form of perforated ears or lugs, being turned over and extending inwardly with relation to the leg-portions or end-members of the frame-sections and resting upon supporting end-elements or parts thereof, so as to provide simple, neat and very strong hinge-connections for the pivotally connected frame-sections.

Other objects of this invention not at this time more particularly enumerated will be clearly understood from the following detailed description of the present invention.

WVith the various objects of the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel bagframe and hinge-connections therefor hereinafter more fully described, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims which are appended to and which form an essential part of this specification.

The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of a bagframe, showing one embodiment of the principles of the present invention; and Fig. 2 is an end-view of the same, the hinged frame-sections of the bag-frame being represented partly open. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of one of the hinged portions of the two frame-sections, said view being made on an enlarged scale, and showing the said frame-sections in their opened relation; and Fig. 4 is a vertical sectional representation of the two frame-sections, said section being represented as taken on line 44 in said Fig. 3, looking in the direction of the arrow 90. Fig. 5 is a face view of the inner portion of one of the hinge-joints of the connected legportions of the two frame-sections; Fig. 6 is a face viewof part of one of the leg-portions of one of the frame-sections, showin the arrangement of the hinge-ear or lug forming an integral part thereof, before the same is bent over upon the ear or lug-supporting element of the frame-section; and Fig. 7 is an edge view of the portion of frame-section represented in said Fig. 6, looking in the direction of the arrow y. Fig. 8 is a view, similar to that shown in said Fig. 7 but showing the hinge-ear or lug bent at right angles and resting directly upon the ear or lugsupporting element of the frame-section; and Fig. 9 is a reverse-edge view of the parts as represented in said Fig. 8.

Similar characters of reference are employed in all of the above described views, to indicate corresponding parts.

Referring now to the said drawings, the referencecharacter 1 indicates a complete bag-frame made according to and embodying the principles of the present invention, the same comprising two hinged or pivotally connected frame-sections.

Each frame-section consists, essentially,

of a main portion 2, from which extends at each end-portion thereof, and at right angles, the leg-portions or end-members 3, the said main portion 2 and said leg-portions or end-members 3 being substantially U- shaped in cross-section, and being preferably made with an outwardly extending marginal rib-like member, as 4, which serves as a reinforcing member and also has an ornate purpose, as will be clearly evident.

Extending downwardly from the lower end-portion of the central metal part 5 disposed between the two side- flanges 6 and 7 of each leg-portion or end-member 3 is a part 8 in the form of an extension which is integrally connected with said part 5 and said flanges 6 and 7 said part 8 having an arc-shaped marginal edgeortion 9, as shown, and the said extension or part 8 forming a lug or ear-supporting element,

substantially as illustrated in the several figures of the drawings and for the purposes to be presently more fully set forth.

Connected with and forming an integral portion of each extension orpart 8 is a suitably shaped pintle or eyelet-receiving ear or lug 10, said ear or lug 10 under normal conditions extending at right angles to the part 8 and being in alinement with the flange 7, as illustrated in Fig. 6

and '7 of the drawings. Each lug or earlO is also made with a pintle or eyelet-receivas 11. In order to provide a hinge-ear. orlug for the purpose of pivotally connecting two of the frame sections together, and whereby the bagframe is produced, the ear or lug 10 of each leg-portion or end-member 3 is bent over and forced down directly upon the previously mentioned lug or ear-supporting element 8, so that the ears or lugs are upon the inner slde of the frame-section, and extend inwardly in directions toward each other, and said ears or lugs being also made large enough so that the perforated portion of each ear or lug will project beyond the curved marginal edge-portion 9 of the part 8 against which it has been pressed and upon which it rests, substantially as illustrated in Figs. 5, 8 and 9 of the drawings.

. In order to pivotally connect or secure two frame-sections of the construction described in the foregoing together so as to the two frame-sections, and thereby produce a bag-frame of the general construction represented in said Figs. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of thedrawings.

From the foregoing description of the present invention it will be clearly evident,

that a neat and simply constructed bagframe has been produced, the hinge-connections of the two frame-sections of the bag frame being such so that a reinforced constructlon is the result; and, furthermore, owing to the hinge-lugs or ears of the respective frame-sections being upon the inner sides of the bag-frame a better constructed and much more neatly finished frame-construction is the result.

I am aware that some changes may be made in the arrangements and combinations of the various parts without departing. from the scope of this invention as set forth in the foregoing specification and as defined in the claims which are appended thereto.

Hence, I do not limit my invention to the exact arrangements and combinations of the said parts as described in the foregoing specification, nor do I confine myself to the exact details of the construction of the said parts as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.

I claim:

1. A bag-frame comprising a pair of frame-sections, each frame-section consisting of a main portion and leg-portions extending at right angles from the end-portions of said main portion, and hinge-connections at the free ends of said leg-portions for pivotally connecting the said frame-sections, each hinge-connection comprising a lug or ear-supporting element extending from and forming an integral part of the frame-section, and a pintle-receiving lug connected with and forming an inte ral part of the said supporting element, sald lug being bent over and resting upon said supporting element, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

2. A bag-frame comprising a pair of frame-sections, each frame-section consisting of a main portion and leg-portions extending at right angles from the end-por- 'tions of said main portion, and hinge-connections at the free ends of said leg-portions for pivot-ally connecting the said frame-sec- 9 tions, each hinge-connection comprising an extension extending from and forming an integral part of the frame-section, said extension being formed with an arc-shaped marginal edge-portion, and a pintle-receiving lug connected with and forming an integral part of the said extension, said lug being bent over and resting upon said extension, and said lug having a portion projecting be; yond the curved marginal edge-portion of said extension, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

3. The herein described bag-frame comprising a pair of frame-sections, each framesection consisting of a main portion and legport-ions extending at right angles from the end-portions of said main portion, said main portion and said leg-portions each consisting of a central main part and outer and inner side-fianges, an extension extending from the central main part of each leg-portion, a perforated lug extending from the outer side-flange of each frame-section, said lug being bent over and resting upon said extension, the respective lugs of the one framesection registering with the respective lugs of the other frame-section, and pintle-connections in the registering lugs of said frame-sections, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.

4. The herein described bag-frame comprising a pair of frame-sections, each framesect-ion consisting of a main portion and legportions extending at right angles from the end-portions of said main portion, said main 130 portion and said leg-portions each consisting of a central main part and outer and inner side-flanges, an outwardly extending marginal rib-like lneinber connected With said main portion and said leg-portions, an extension extending from the central main part of each leg-portion, a perforated lug extending from the outer side-flange of each frame-section, said lug being bent over and resting upon said extension, the respective lugs of the one frame-section registering with the respective lugs of the other framesection, and pintle-connections in the registering lugs of said frame-sections, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
