UNDERGARMENT.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HANNAH GooLsBY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at WVauchula, in the county of De Soto and State of Florida, have invented new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to undergarments, and it has for its object to simplify and improve the construction of the same; to provide a garment which shall be durable and inexpensive; to provide a garment having pockets or receptacles wherein oads may be i1 to provide a garment having a separate waist band serving to support pockets or receptacles suspended within the garment.

The invention has particular reference to mens drawers, and with the aforesaid and other ends in view which will readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the improved construction and novel arrangement and combination of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and particularly pointed out in the claim.

In the accompanying drawing has been illustrated a simple and preferred form of the invention, it being, however, understood that no limitation is necessarily made to the precise structural details therein exhibited, but that changes, alterations and modifications within the scope of the invention may be resorted to when desired.

In the drawing,Figure 1 is a front view of a pair of drawers constructed in accord ance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view taken on the plane indicated by the line 22 in Fig. 1.

Corresponding parts in both figures are denoted by like characters of reference.

The legs 5, 5 of the improved garment are reinforced by bifurcated patches of lining 6 and 7 adjacent to and extending downwardly and upwardly from the crotch, said lining patches being secured by rows of stitching adjacent to their edges. The upper edge of the rear lining patch, which is applied to the seat and which extends downwardly and upwardly therefrom to reinforce the inner sides of the legs as well as the seat proper, is connected adjacent to its upper edge with a belt 8 which is secured to the waist band 9 by extensions of the rows of stitching 10 which connect the edges of Specification of Letters Patent.

the lining patch 7 with the garment; the lining patch 7 is also connected with the seat of the garment by a transverse row of stitching 11 so that the upper portion of said patch, which is connected with the belt, will cooperate with the rear portion of the garment to constitute a pocket, the upper portion or slit of which appears at 12. The ends of the belt 8 are provided, respectively with a button 13 and a buttonhole 14 to enable them to be connected with each other, and the waist band 9 in addition to the customary button and buttonhole 15, 16 is equipped with an auxiliary buttonhole 17 which may be buttoned upon the button 13 for the purpose of connecting the parts. The waist band is provided wth the usual suspender-receiving straps 18. Pocket flaps, as shown at 19, are secured interiorly upon the legs of the garment at the knees, and pads, as shown at 20, are for felt or other suitable material and are to be placed upon the flaps formed by the pockets 19 as well as in the pocket 12, for the purpose of resisting wear. These pads will also be found serviceable to receive turpentine and other liniments which may be dropped thereupon for the purpose of curing various ailments.

Straps, as shown at 21, are provided adjacent their upper ends with loops 22, whereby they are adjustably supported upon the belt 8, said straps carrying at their lower ends pockets, bags or receptacles 23 wherein valuables may be carried, said bags being provided with drawstrings 24, whereby they may be closed.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, the operation and advantages of the invention will be readily understood. An undergarment is provided which, while simple and easily manufactured, will be found extremely durable and capable of resisting wear; especially for athletes and persons who have much occasion to exercise out doors as on bicycles or horse back, these garments are desirable because the reinforcements will serve to prevent tearing in the crotch where such injury is otherwise apt to occur. People affected with weak backs resulting from rheumatism and other causes will be greatly benefited by the presence of the pad-receiving pockets, wherein medicated pads may be placed, and such pads will subserve an additional and valuable function in assisting to resist wear by fricbe carried, the same being suspended with- I in the legs of the garment where they will not readily be lost and where robbers and highwaymen would not be liable to loolc for spoils.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is 2- A pair of mens drawers having front and rear lining patches adjacent to and extending downwardly and upwardly from the crotch, the rear lining patch being connected with the seat of the garment by a transverse row of stitching to form a pocket, a belt connected with the rear lining patch adjacent to the upper edge of the latter, said belt being also connected with the waist 20 band of the garment by the vertical rows of stitching adjacent to the side edges of the lining patch, and means for connecting the free ends of the belt including a button and a huttonhole, the waist band of the garment 25 being provided with an auxiliary buttonhole for the passage of the belt button.
