MAX GALLAND, OF IVILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
CORSET-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 581,579, dated April 27, 1897.
Application filed September 1'7, 1896. Serial No. 606,085. (No model.)
To a whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, MAX GALLAND, of 'Wilkes-Barr, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Corset-Cover, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved corset-cover arranged to readily adjust itself to the form of the wearers body or corset, to insure a perfect fitting of the garment without danger of injury to the delicate portions of the garment, and at the same time giving perfect freedom to the arms of the wearer.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be fully described hereinafter and then pointed out in the claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective view of the im provement as applied and with the side flaps and body in an open position. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the improvement as applied, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan view of the improvement extended.
The improved corset-cover is provided with a front A, made of a suitable fabric and formed in its upper middle portion with lace or other delicate fabric A forheightening the appearance of the garment. The front A is also provided with shoulder-straps A connected by buttonholes with buttons B, sewed on shoulder-straps G, formed on a back 0, having side flaps 0, adapted to form a waist. The front ends of the side flaps are adapted to be fastened together by buttons or other suitable fastening devices in front, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2.
The side flaps C are adapted to bind in the sides and bottom of the loosely-hanging front A, and said'side flaps are out out sufficiently at the top to fully expose the lace part A of the front A, as is plainly indicated in Fig. 2. The said flaps C also form armholes with the upper side portions of the front A for the passage of the wearers arms, it being understood, however, that the armholes are formed at theirbottoms by the overlapping of the side flaps C on the front A, so as to give perfect freedom to the wearers arms. Now it will be seen that by the arrangement described the front A hangs down loosely over the front of the'corset or the body of the wearer, and the said front is bound in place at the sides and bottom by drawing the side flaps C over the portions of the front referred to and then fastening the front edges of the said side flaps with each other at the front of the wearers body and at the Waist thereof, as plainly indicated in Fig. 2.
By making the garment in two parts, namel y, the front A and the back 0, it is evident that the front, with its delicate lace portion, can be separately washed from the back A, thereby avoiding injury to the waist.
It is further evident that by having the front separate from the back it permits the said front to readily adjust itself to the bust or to the shape of the corset without unnecessarily stretching and consequently injuring the lace portions of the front.
It will further be seen that any shrinkage caused by washing will not affect the use of the front A, as the same will readily adapt itself, even if shrunken, to the form of the wearers body or to the corset.
By adjusting the buttons B on the shoulderstraps for the back 0, I am enabled to fit the said back for long or short waists without otherwise changing the form of the said back or front.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A corset-cover, having a body provided with a back having side flaps extending therefrom and arranged to be fastened together at the front to form a low-cut waist, and a loose front having a shoulder connection with the said back and forming with the latter armholes, said front being held in place by the side flaps, substantially as shown and described.
2. A corset-cover, comprising a front, and a back having a shoulder connection with said front, but otherwise separate therefrom and formed with side flaps, said flaps being arranged to be connected with each other over the said front and holding the same in place, substantially as described.
3. A corset-cover,comprising the loose front and bottom of the same, and forming with the provided with shoulder-straps, and the back latter armholes, substantially as shown and having shoulder-straps detachably connected described.
with the straps of the front and side flaps ex- MAX GALLAND. 5 tending from said back and having their free \Vitnesses:
ends arranged to be connected with each other MARY L. TRESCOTT,
over the said front and binding in the sides WV. F. WVARD.
