Description

W. W. BEWSIO.
UN DERGARMEN T. APPLICATION FILED P334, 1909.
Patented Oct. 4, 1910.
WITNESSES! ATTORNEYS FEET @lFFltl.
WILLIAM W. BEWSIC, OF RED BANK, NEW JERSEY.
UNDERGARMENT. l
Application filed February 1, 1909.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Get. t, 1910.
Serial No. 475,394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, VILLIAM lV. Bnwsio, citizen of the United States, residing at Red Bank, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to apparel for children and particularly to waterproof undergarments as a covering for the hips and thighs.
More specifically the invention relates to a childs garment which may be opened out in flat form so to be applied in the manner of applying diapers and comprising a body portion having lateral members arranged to be brought around the hips and fastened together in the front and also a centrally located flap arranged to be drawn between the legs and up into the crotch together with angular strips having cords at their free ends and arranged to be wound tightly about the edges of the garment surrounding the limbs of the child and to be secured in such drawn position whereby moisture is prevented from passing around the limbs and saturating other articles of apparel. This arrangement forms suitable openings for the legs of the wearer.
Invention also resides in the arrangement of the garment so that the crotch portion when drawn between the limbs of the wearer may be readily secured by a single fastening means to both of the side portions.
The invention may be further briefly sum marized as consisting in the construction and combination of parts hereinafter set forth in the drawings, specification and claims.
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 represents the device opened and spread out to clearly set forth the construction and arrangement thereof; Fig. 2 shows afront view of the device applied; Fig. 3 is an elevation with one lateral member unfastened and spread out to more clearly show the construction and Fig. t is a rear view applied showing the manner in which. the strips pass around the limbs of the wearer.
The invention may be carried out in any preferred manner and any suitable pattern or design of garment may be provided with my invention so long as it possesses the necessary features but I have shown one form in the drawings Which meets the re quircments very effectively and in such embodiment 1 represents a body portion having a centrally located flap 2 adapted to be drawn tightly between the legs of the wearer and a waist band 3 provided in the back with openings 4t for receiving a tape 5 to be drawn and tied in the adjustment of the waist band to the wearer.
At one end the waist band 3 has a button 6 cooperating with a button hole 7 to form a fastening device for the band at the waist and further has secured under it a loop 8 the purpose of which will be later described. The lateral members 9 and 10 of the garment are drawn around in front and are provided with button holes at 11 and 12 which both fasten over a button 13 carried by the flap 2 when it is drawn up in front after being passed between the limbs of the wearer. The side portions 9 and 10 are extended in long angular strips 14; and 15 adaptedto be wound around the corresponding leg to the back and thence around the back and to the front on the outside and held by tapes l6 and 17 fastened to the loop 8 as clearly shown in Figs. 2 and at.
From the foregoing construction it will be seen that the strips l l and 15 may be drawn around the limbs of the child and over the edges of the body portion of the garment at the leg openings so that moisture may not pass out at these points.
Having described my invention, I claim 1. As an article of manufacture, a childs undergarment having openings for the thighs, an extension secured to the garment adjacent to each thigh opening and adapted to be wound snugly about the edge of the garment at the corresponding thigh openings, tapes secured to the free ends of said extensions and means secured to the waist band and to which said tapes may be secured.
2. As an article of manufacture, a childs undergarment comprising a body portion, a crotch portion, lateral portions adapted to be brought around in front, means for holding the same together, an extension upon each lateral portion and arranged to pass between the thighs and to be wound snugly about the edge of the garment at the corresponding thigh opening and tapes upon the ends of said extensions and secured to the waist band for holding the same in place.
3. As an article of manufacture, a childs undergarment comprising a Waist band, a free ends of said extensions and a loop carbody portion, a crotch portlon lateral porried by the Waist band in front to which tions arranged to pass around the hips and said tapes may be secured.
