Description

O. KRUG.
LAMP HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED AUG. 20, 1909.
. Patented Sept. 27', 1910.
UNITED @TATES PATENT FFIQE.
OTTO KRUG, OF MAGDEBURG, GERMANY.
LAMP-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, O'r'ro KRUG, a subject of the King of Prussia, Emperor of Germany, residing at Magdeburg, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp-Holders, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
This invention relates to a lamp-holder which is particularly adapted for use in connection with pianos, organs or the like.
I will now proceed to describe my invention in detail, the special features of which I will finally claim, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part hereof, wherein:
Figure 1 illustrates in elevation a portion of one end of a piano, the upper part of which is broken away to show the manner of securing my improved lamp-holder; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the adjustable member of the lamp-holder; Fig. 3 is a top plan view thereof; Fig. 1 is a top plan view of the angle piece of my improved lampholder; and- Fig. 5 is a face view of the retaining plate for the lamp-holder.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates a socket which is adapted to receive a lamp, the said socket being secured to a handle 2 which is in the form of a loop as shown. To the handle 2 I secure a vertical bar 3 which is provided with a longitudinal slot 1. The bar 3 is adjustably secured to an angle-piece 5 by means of a bolt 11 which carries a wing-nut, as shown.
To keep the bar 3 in alinement with its cooperating member of the angle-piece 5, I provide the angle-piece 5 with a pin 7 which is adapted to pass through the slot 4 in the said bar 3.
To secure the lamp-holder to the piano I provide a block 9, having secured thereto, by means of a screw 12, a retaining plate 8. The retaining plate 8 is provided with open ings 18 through which the member 5 of the angle-piece 5 is adapted to pass, the upper and lower rails of the said retaining plate 8 being provided with lugs 17 The lugs 17 are adapted to enter the longitudinal slot 6 in the member 5 of the angle-piece 5.
The block 9 and retaining plate 8 are permanently secured to the inner surface of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed August 20, 1909.

Serial No. 513,728.
the front wall 10 of the piano, and owing to the structure of the retaining plate 8 the lamp-holder may be removed from the piano at will, and secured to any other suitable support or stored away.
To place the lamp-holder in position on the piano it is but necessary to pass the member 5 of the angle-piece 5 through an adjacent opening 18 in the retaining plate 8, the said holder being slightly tilted in order that the member 5 may be passed under the lug 17. After having passed the member 5 through the said opening 18 sufliciently to cause the lug 1.7 to aline with the slot 6 in the said member 5 the lampholder may be dropped, at the outer lower end thereof, thereby causing the lug 17 to enter the slot 6. any way interfere with the closing of the lid of the piano.
As can be seen in Fig. 5 the plate 8 is provided with two openings 18, each of said openings having extending therein, a lug 17. The object of constructing the retaining plate in this manner is to adapt same for reversal, whereby the said plate will last much longer than a plate provided with one opening and one lug;
Having now described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In combination with a piano, a lamp bracket consisting of an angle-piece, one member of said angle-piece being provided with a slot, a bar vertically adjustable upon the other member of said angle-piece, a socket carried by said bar adapted to retain a lamp, a plate permanently secured to the inner surface of the front wall of said piano and adjacent the top thereof, said plate being provided with an opening adapted to receive the slotted member of said anglepiece, and a lug carried by said plate adapted to engage the slot in said anglepiece.
Signed at Magdeburg, this 6th day of August 1909.
OTTO KRUG.
