j FRANZ GEDIES AND CARL SGHUNKE, OF BERLIN, GERMANY.
LAMP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 516,925, dated March 20, 1894.
Application led October 27, 1892.
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANZ GEDIEs and CARL SCHUNKE, of Berlin, in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention has for its object to provide an adjustable lamp for use when working, reading and the like, which may readily be brought into any desired convenient position relatively to the work, book or other object.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part-of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figre I is a broken side elevation of a lamp embodying our invention, partly in section. Fig. l is a detail vertical section of a part thereof. Fig. II is a plan view. Fig. III is a front elevation of the parts shown in Fig. Ia. Fig. lV is a plan View of such parts; and Fig. V is a plan view of the base and clamp. Fig. VI is a side elevation of the same.
In constructing our improvement, a base is provided comprising an upright stud or post b and a base flange b', and on said post there is sprung a tube a, having a lateral tubular arm e, the latter, being formed with a longitudinal slot f. In the tube e there is fitted to slide a rod g, which is held in any adjusted position by the wing screw h, and carries at its outer end a vertical plate fi, through which Y the reduced outer end of said rod projects, as
is clamped tovany suitable support or table d, by means of the clamp c, consisting of a U-shaped yoke adapted to embrace the table or the like, the top member beingformedinto a split'ring c', to permit it to pass laterally over the flange b', as shown in Fig. 5, and
SerielNo.450,136. (Nomodel.)
the bottom member of the yoke being provided with a vertically movable clamp screw c2. Bythe above construction, the lamp may be clamped to any convenient bench, table,
or like support, and may be readily adj ustedY apertured arm, a standard, a laterally disposed rod supported from the standard, said rod having a plate near its outer end through which the outer end of the rod projects for engaging the apertured arm of the lamp, and a locking device consisting of a sleeve adapted to slide over said plate and the upper end of said apertured arm, substantially as described.
2. A lamp bracket comprising the vertical standard a having a flange b at its lower end, a clamp having a split or open ring to engage said flange, a longitudinally slotted tubular arm projecting from the said standard, a rod sliding therein and provided with a set screw extending through said slot, a vertical plate on the outer end of the rod, a projection 7c extending from the outer face of the plate, a
.lamp` carrying arm having ya vertical series of apertures to engage projection lc, and a removable sleeve m embracing the said plate and aperturedarm, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with the vertical standard having. a lamp carrying arm and provided at its lower end with a base flange b of the clamp comprising a yoke adapted to embrace the table or other article and provided on the end of its upper member with a ring per side of the flange b and the vertical screw y c2 extending through the lower member substantially as set forth.
4. In a lamp bracket a rod provided at its end with a vertical plate and a projection beyoud the outer face of said plate a lamp carrying arm having an aperture to engage said 5 projection and a sleeve removably embracing the said plate and apertured arm al1 substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two witnesses.
