SHADE AND CURTAIN-FOLIE HANG-13R.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Tune 1, 1915.
Application :filed July 11, 1913, Serial No. 778,613. Renewed April 2S, 1915. Serial No. 24,559.
T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, l-IERVEY S. BITTING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain-Pole Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to s hade and curtain pole hangers, and has for its object to provide a construction in which a mm1- mum number of parts are required to furnish proper support for both shade-roller and curtain-pole, and in which but a single fastening is required to secure the fixture in place and permit its ready adjustment; so that defacement of the woodwork to which the fixture is applied by the use of a large number of screws or other securing means is entirely done away with.
In the drawings herewith I have shown one embodiment of my invention, but it will be understood that this embodiment is merely illustrative, and such changes as are within the range of mechanical skill may be made without departing from my invention.
In the drawings :wFigure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a window casing, showing the fixtures in place. Fig. 2 is a sectional view vertically of the foundation or base-plate, showing the curtain pole supporting arm. Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation of the base-plate, showing the single fastening and adjusting means. Figs. 4f, 5, 6, 7 and 8 are detail views showing the mounting of the shade supporting arm.
Fig. 9 is a detail view of the curtain pole supporting bracket, looking in the direction of the arrow, Fig. 2.
Referring to the drawings by numerals, like numbers indicating like parts in the several views, 10 indicates the supporting baseplate of the fixture, preferably made of sheet metal, and which, as shown, is of sub- T he vertical limb of the plate' 10 is provided with a securing and adjusting slot 11 through which may be passed a headed screw, preferably a thumb screw, 12, which, when set up in the position shown in Fig. 1, will clamp the plate 10 securely in place. It will be seen that bv turning the screw 12 to the position Shown in dotted lines in Figs. 2 and 3, at right angles to the position shown in full lines, the Xture may be readily adjusted for height, and as readily taken off, the slot 11 being of suiicient length and width to permit the plate 10 to be slipped over the head of the screw 12 when slot and head are alined, or to allow for vertical adjustment.
Above and below the slot 1l I provide struck up lugs 13, these lugs being stamped through so as to form apertured seats for the feet of the pole support 14, the said support being of spring metal and in the form of an angle bracket which may be readily sprung into position and removed. Said support 14 has the adjustable member 15 provided with the curved pole seat at one end, its other end passing through an aperture 17 at the angle of the spring bracket which forms the pole-support 14, and having a clamping screw 16 which traverses a slot 18 in the inclined arm of the pole-support for purposes of adjustment.
The horizontal limb 19 of the base-plate 10 is provided with an upset central area 20, in which is formed a slot 21, one side at least of which is notched or serrated, as at 22, to engage the foot 23 of the curtainsupporting bracket 21, which is seated and slides in the upset portion 20 of the horizontal limb 19. The foot 23 of the arm or bracket 2li fits closely within the pocket or Vway formed by the upset portion, so that it is effectually locked in its adjusted position when the base-plate 10 is clamped flat against the window casing. When adjustment of the curtain bracket is necessary, the base-plate may be loosened, the bracket turned to disengage the edges of the foot 23 from the notches 22, and it may then be shifted to any desired point of adjustment, turned to normal position, and again engaged with a locking notch.
It will be seen that with a fixture of the construction disclosed, but a single plate and a single securing means is necessary to put it up; and, furthermore, adjustment of the fixture as a. whole and of the shade bracket may be made merely by loosening the single screw which holds the fixture in place, so that the necessity of drawing from the wood a plurality of fastening means and driving them in new places in the woodwork when the fixture is to be adjusted or removed is wholly unnecessary; and it is obvious that since the base-plate is of a single piece rigidity of structure and a secure support of all of the parts is insured.
I claim Y l. A. fixture of the class described comprising a base-plate having a vertical limb in Which is formed a vertical slot and Va horizontal limb provided with a horizontal seat, a single Vfastening means engaging said plate through the vertical slot by Which said plate may `be -adjustably mounted on-a Window frame, a curtain-pole bracket detachably 'mounted on said vertical limb, land a shade rollerbracket horizontally adjustable and ldetachably mounted in said seat on said horizontal limb.
2. A fixture of the class described-'coinprising a base-plate `of inverted Leshape formed .vith a `vertical slot and la horizontal seat, a single fastening means passing through said slot in the vertica'i limb of said plate to permit -vertical adjustment, bracket engaging seats formed Ionsaid vertical limb on either side. of Asaid slot, a spring .curtain-pole bracket detachably `engaging said seats, and a '-seltlocking shaderoller bracket adjustably and detachably mounted lin a slot in said seat inthe horizontal limb.
B. A fixture of the class described com- `pi-isinga baseplate of inverted LL-shapethe vei'tical limbotl which is provided With a longitudinal slot, a single fastening l-ineans adapted toturn to engage the slot in said limb `When in one position and hold the lplate fixed and to be disengaged from the slot `when turned into another position, bracket-engaging seats formed on said vertical limb on either side of said slot, a spring `curtain-pole bracket detachably engaging said seats, an elongated locking yseathaving a bracket receiving slot therein on vthe horizontal limb of said base-plate, a
from upon loosening the base-plate, and automatic locking Vmeans 'for holding said bracket in operative position in said seat.
at. A iixtureof the class described coin- .prising a base-plate of inverted L-shape, the vertical limb of Which is provided With a longitudinal slot; a thumb screvv With an elongated lhead-engaging said slot Vand serving by said'iliead to secure said base-plate in place when in one position, but disen- Agageable from the base-platethrough said slot 'when in :another position; apertured' seats formed in the vertical limb of said plate non feith'er sideV of -said \slot; a
Vspring curtain-pole bracket @having a hori- -zontal leg, an inclined fleg and fa seatengaging foot on each leg :which resiliently engage said -apertured seats; an adjustable pole-'seat slidingly Zmounted lin :an opening in the projecting angleof said Abracket;
'fastening means to secure -saidv'adjustable j sition land its seat.
