1. A. COLL WINDOW SHADE BRACKET. APPLICATION FILED JULY 17. I916.
Patented Aug. 7

wrnnow-snann naacnn'r.
Specification. of Letters Patent. I l g tqgg tfl'jgug "7,
Application filed July 17, 193.6. Serial No. 109,733.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN A. Gone, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, and State of lilaryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in iVindow-Shade Brackets, of which the following is a. specification.
The present invention has to do with improvements in window shade brackets or hangers of that type adapted for attachment to window frames by a gripping action and without using fastening means which would tend to mar the material or woodwork of said frames.
The invention consists in its essential features of a relatively stationary and a relatively movable engaging member, one of said members having a connecting member which is adjustable with respect to the other memher so as to hold the bracket in engaging position uponthe frame.
It is further contemplated to employ means for positively holding the movable member at this position, all as hereinafter more fully pointed out and claimed, and
illustrated the accompanying drawing, wherein:
ldigure l is a fragmentary perspective view showing the application of my invention to a window frame.
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of a bracket member.
Fig. 3'is a vertical sectional view on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. l is a rear elevation.
Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view on the line 5-'5of Fig. 3; and
. 1 Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the angle shaped movable member for the bracket.
Throughout the following-detail description and on the several figures of the drawingsimilar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
Specifically describing the invention and referring to the drawir. 1 designates the relatively stationary am engaging member of my bracket win-eh is of elongated. form and adapted for engaging the upper portion A of a window frame on the face of which it is vertically disposed. The lower end of this member is provided with an inwardlybent flange 2, the extremity of which is slightly bent up and serrated as indicated at 8. At the lower portion the member 1 is provided with a lateral angularly bent apertured arm at to which one end of a window shade B is engaged to support the latter. This stationary member 1 is also provided with a longitudinally extending slot 5 through which a rotatable connecting member or button 6 attached to a relatively stationary gripping member 7 is adapted be inserted. The button 6 is of elongated form so as to enable its introduction into the slot and when turned to lie transversely of the member 1, the movable member 7 is held in adjusted position. This member .7 is
angle shaped as shown most clearly in Fig. 6, the upper rearwardly extending portion being formed with a downwardly bent edge or flange which is serrated as indicated at 8 for the purpose of gripping the wood work of the frame either on its edge or where it is narrow enough the serrated flange engages behind'said frame piece. With this arrangement the bracket may be attached to window frames of different sizes and under ordinary conditions the construction above described is sufiicient for supporting a window shade. Inorder to provide for positively holding the. movable gripping mem her 7 against displacement; I preferably bend inwardly the upper end portion of the relatively stationary member 1 so as to provide an overhanging flange 9 wh1ch'has a threaded aperture to accommodate a set screw 10. This screw is designed to be adjusted so. as to contact with the upper surface of the movable member 7 after the latter has'been fixed in engagement with end bent inwardly to form a gripping flange,
a shade supporting arm on said stationary ,mel nber, said member having a longitudinally. extending slot and having its upper 5 end bent rearwardly to provide an overhanging flange, grip piece, means engaging an adjustable angle-shaped through the slot and connecting said grip piece to the stationary member, and a set screw carried'by said overhanging flange so as to engage the g rip piece aforesaid for positively retaining the latter at adjusted position.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
