To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM J. Rnrrz, a citizen of the United States, residing at Southwest, in the county of VVestmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shade and Curtain-Pole Brackets, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in shade and curtain brackets, and has for provide a device of this character which embodies novel features of construction whereby the curtain pole can be easily and quickly adjusted horizontally and toward and away from the window frame.

A further object of the invention is to provide a curtain pole bracket which is simple and inexpensive in its construction, which can be readily applied to a window frame, which can be quickly adjusted to shift the curtain pole into the desired position, and which overcomes the difficulty incident to hanging curtains on narrow window frames.

With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of the parts as will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the novel features thereof being pointed out in the appended claim.

For a full understanding of the invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of an adjustable curtain pole bracket constructed in accordance with the invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional View on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. A is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing a slight modification, and Fig. 5 is a detached view of the curtain pole supporting hook.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters.

Referring to the drawings, the character A designates a guide casing which is adapted to be applied to the window frame in the usual position at the top thereof. This guide casing A is formed from a single piece of sheet material which is longitudinally crimped at a point between its sides, as indiits object to cated at 1, to provide a channel within which one of the arms of the angular stock B is slidably mounted. The edge portions of the piece of sheet material, on opposite sides of the crimped portion 1 thereof provide side wings 2 which are adapted to fit flat against the window frame and are formed with suitable openings adapted to receive fastening members such as the screws 4:.

The angular stock B is formed of tubular material and comprises a pair of arms 5 and 6 which are disposed at substantially right angles to each other. The arm 6 of the stock is slidably mounted within the guide casing A, while the arm 5 of the stock slidably receives the stem 7 of a curtain pole supporting hook 8.

A longitudinal slot 9 is formed in the front of the crimped portion 1 of the guide casing A to receive a clamping screw 10 which passes through the arm 6 of the angular stock B. This clamping screw 10 is provided at the inner end thereof with a nut 11 which slides within the base of the guide casing and is preferably engaged thereby so as to be held against rotation. By loosening the clamping screw 10, the angular stock B can be moved longitudinally so as to adjust the curtain pole horizontally in the required manner. The opposite arm 5 of the angular stock B is provided with a thumb screw 12 adapted to engage the stem 7 of the curtain pole receiving hook 8 to clamp the said member in an adjusted position. However, when this thumb screw 12 is loosened the stem 7 can be telescoped in and out within the arm 5 of the stock B so as to move the curtain pole horizontally toward and away from the window frame. The eX- tremity of the curtain pole supporting hook 8 may be flattened as indicated at 1 1 and provided with a perforation to receive the usual screw or pin for retaining the pole in position within the hook.

A slight modification is shown by Fig. 4;, in which the opposite sides of the crimped portion 1 of the guide casing A are shown as formed with the inwardly facing longitudinal guide grooves 15 adapted to receivethe sides of the nut 11 and form a guideway for the said nut. This nut is adapted to slide freely within the guideway when the clamping screw 10 is loosened, although the parts are drawn tightly together so as to retain them securely in an adjusted position when the clamping screw 10 is tightened.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

An adjustable curtain .pole bracket ineluding a guide casing formed of a single sheet of material and having an intermediate portion thereof crimped to provide'a longitudinal guideway extending from end to end thereof, the said crimped portion being formed at the front thereof with a longitudinal slot and upon opposite sides thereof with rearwardly opening longitudinal grooves extending along vthe base there of, a stock including arms disposed at angles to each other, one ofthe arms being slidable within the crimped portion ofthe guide casing while the other arm projects through the longitudinal slot thereof, a clamping screw passing through the slot of the guide casing and the arm of the stock, and a po lygonal nut engaging the inner end of the clamping screw and having opposite sides thereof received within the before mentioned longitudinal grooves at the base of the crimped portion of the casing to lock the nut against rotation.
