PATENT OFF C DANIEL J. OOOKE, OFPATERSON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR OF TWO- THIRDS TO JOSEPH WHITE, or PATERSON, NEW JERSEY, AND HENRY E. GOODMAN, OF DUNDEE LAKE, NEW JERSEY.
COMBINED SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET AND CURTAIN- POLE SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part-of Letters Patent No. 758,419, dated April 26, 1904..
Application filed January 2, 1904.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL J. CooKE, a citizen of the United States, residing in Paterson, county of Passaic, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in a Combined Shade Roller Bracket and Curtain-Pole Support; and I do hereby declare the following tobe a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art' to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to fixtures for supporting shade-rollers, curtain-poles, and the like; and it consists in certain improvements having for their object, first, to provide for adjusting such fixtures so as to accommodate different lengths of shade-rollers, and, second, to provide a. combined shade-roller and ourtain-pole support which shall be both adjustable, so as to accommodate different lengths of curtain-poles and shade-rollers and also so as to accommodate curtain-poles of different diam-' eters. The invention will be found fully illustrated in the accompanyingdrawings, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of a fixture constructed after the principles of my invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view, partly in side elevation and partly in vertical section, of
what is seen in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a view of the fixture in front elevation, showing the fixed member partly broken away and the adjustable member in section. Fig. 4: is a detail view illustrating the means for adjustably securing the curtain-pole in position, and Figs. 5 and 6 are detail views showing a modified form of the means for securing the curtain- Serial No. 187,497. (No model.)
In the grooves 0' is a nut e of such diameter as to approximately fit in the way formed by said grooves, and thus be prevented from turning, and f is a set-screw which carries said nut.
g is the movable or adjustable member of the device, the same consisting of an arm it, formed with an offset portion 2', disposed at right angles thereto and carrying the screw f. By turning the screw f it may be made to coact with the nut in an obvious manner to either loosen the member g, so that it may be adjusted lengthwise of the member a or so as to fix said member g at any point to which it is adjusted. In order to permit initial access of the nut 6 into the way formed by the grooves c, the rear walls of said grooves are removed near one end of the plate a to a width corresponding to the diameter of the nut, as at f. The member g is formed with the usual bearing-opening it" (orl, see dotted lines in Fig. 2) for the reception of the trunnion of the shade-roller. The end of the member g is formed with a recess m, in which the curtain-pole n (shown in dot-and-dash outline in Figs. Qand 5) rests. In order to fix the pole against movement'in the member 9, .I secure to the member as by a screw 0, a strap p, preferably of metal, having its free end formed as a loop or grip q and provided With keyhole-shaped orifices 0, which receive a screw .9, mounted in the member g. The pole being in place, the strap is drawn over the Same until the pin 8 engages with one of the orifices of the strap, whereupon when the strap has been pulled tightly enough over the pole to prevent the longitudinal movement thereof the screw is set so that its head will hold the strap fixed in that position. Inlieu of the pin 8 athumbscrew t may be 1 employed, as seen inFig. 5, in which case in orderto secure more delicate adjustment the strap 19 may have a longitudinal slot at therein.
The rib c, forming the back wall of each groove 0, acts to space the ,nut from the latter when the member g is adjusted longitudinally of the fixed member a.
Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
l. The combination of a fixed member having a horizontal slot therein and, on the reverse side thereof, two opposed ribs coacting with the slotted portion of said member as guides and forming With said slotted portion opposed grooves, a nut arranged in said grooves, an adjustable member having an offset portion, and a screw penetrating said ofiset portion of the adjustable member and the slot of the fixed member and carrying said nut, substantially as described.
2. The combination of a fixed member, an adjustable member, means for adjustably securing the adjustable member to the fixed member, said adjustable member having a recess for the reception of a curtain-pole, a strap carried by said adjustable member and extending over said recess, anda threaded device carried by said adjustable member and adapted to be screwed up tight against said strap to clamp the same tight over the pole, substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 19th day of December, 1903.
