ADJUSTABLE SHADE-ROLLER BRACKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 18, 1912. Serial No. 721,008.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. BROWN, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Veymouth, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Shade-Roller Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in adjustable shade roller brackets, the object of the invention being to provide an im proved construction of shade roller bracket which enables the adjustment of the bracket so as to accommodate various lengths of shade rollers, so that brackets of this kind may be secured to a window frame and accommodate rolls of different lengths, thus preventing the necessity of injuring the frame by the frequent driving of screws and nails into the same.
A. further objectis to provide an adjustable shade roller bracket with improved means for securely locking the bracket at any adjustment, which will absolutely prevent any possibilityof accidental movement.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and an rangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a broken view in front elevation illustrat ing my improvements. Fig. 2 is a View of one of the brackets and its support in elevation. Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2. Fig. l is a view in transverse section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 2 Figs. 5 and6 are perspective views of the two plates constituting the base of the bracket, and Fig. 7 is an inner face view of the bracket and its supporting base.
1 represents a window frame and 2, 2, the supports of my improved brackets 3 which in Fig. 1 are illustrated supporting a shade roller 3 The brackets are alike in construction with the exception that one is provided with a circular opening 4 to receive the round trunnion of the roll, and the other bracket is properly shaped to receive the other trunnion of the roll as is well understood in this art. The description therefore of one bracket and its support will apply alike to both.
The bracket support comprises a plate 5 the reception of'screws 7 to secure the support to the frame. On the plate 5, an outer plate 8 is secured by rivets 9 and this outer plate is provided with a central longitudinal slot 10, and the side walls of this slot are recessed as shown at 11, the inner face of the plate in its recessed portion provided with teeth or serrations 12 for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
The bracket 3 has secured thereto at one side, an angle bar 13, and between the angle bar 13 and the main portion of the bracket, a strengthening plate 14 is located, the bracket, angle bar and plate being secured together by a rivet 15. A
The bracket 3 and the plate 14L at their inner ends are provided with lugs 16 located at the edges of the bracket and plate respectively, and said lugs formed with laterally projecting feet 17 which are positioned against the inner face of base plates 18 and 19 respectively. These base plates 18 and 19 are secured together by rivets 20 which are projected through a tongue 21 on plate 19 which overlaps plate 18, and said rivets are also projected through plate 18 and upset at their ends. Plate 18 is provided with recesses 22 in which the lugs 16 of the bracket 3 and plate 14 are located.
It is to be understood that in assembling the parts, the bracket and plate will be located with their lugs 16 in the recesses 22, and then the plate 19 will be secured to plate 18 by projecting the tongue 21 between the lugs 16 and then securing the parts together by the rivets 20.
The plates 18 and 19 along their edges are provided with teeth or serrations 23 which engage the teeth or serrations 12 of plate 8. An opening 24 is formed in plate 19, and through this opening, an internally screwthreaded cylindrical cup 25 is projected. A head 26 is formed on the inner end of the cup which is larger than the opening, and this head is secured by a rivet 27 to plate 19, so as to prevent any turning movement of the cup.
The angle plate 13 is provided with an opening 28 to receive a screw 29. The head of this screw is positioned against a washer 30 on the outer end of the angle plate 13, and the threaded portion of the screw engages in the threads of the cup 25. To adjust the'bracket it is simply necessary to loosen the screw and then slide'the bracket and its support-ing base longitudinally, and when the desired adjustment is had, the screw is turned in the opposite direction to draw thesupporting base of the bracket outwardly as above explained.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing. from .my invention, and hence I do not limit myself to the precise details set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. A device of the character described, comprising a supporting plate having a longitudinal slot therein, a bracket mounted to move in the slot of the plate, a base to which said bracket is secured, an internally screwthreaded cup fixed to the "base, an. angle plate on the bracket having an opening therein, and a headed screw projected through the opening in the angle plate and screwed into the cup, whereby the movement of the screw in one direction draws the base outwardly against the first-mentioned plate, substantially as described.
2. A device of the character described,

A' device of the character described, comprising an inner plate, an outer plate secured to the inner plate and having a longitudinal slot therein, said outer plate havring serrations on its under face, a bracket movable in the slot of the outer plate, a base secured to said bracket located between the plates and having serrations on its outer edge, an angle plate on the bracket, an internally screw-threaded'cup secured to the base, and a screw projected through the angle plate and screwed into the cup, said screw having a head on its outer end posi- 'tioned against the angle plate, substantially as described;
4. A device of the character described,
comprising an inner plate, an outer plate secured to the innerplate and having a longitudinal slot therein, said outer plate having serrations on its under face, a bracket in, lugs on the bracket positioned in the re- 'cesses, feet on the lugs positloned against the under face of the base, and means on the bracket. whereby the base is drawn outwardly into contact with the inner face of the plate, substantially as described.
