UNITED STKTES PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN T. NAKASHJIAN, OF WVORGESTER, MASSACHUSETTS.
CURTAIN- FIXTU RE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 704,205, dated July 8, 1902.
Application filed April 12, 1901.
T0 [tZZ whom, it may concern."
Be it known that LSTEPHEN T. NAKASHJIAN, of the city and county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Fixtures; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had'to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which- Figure 1 represents a front view of part of the upper portion of a window with my in-' vention applied thereto, a curtain and its roller being also shown by dotted lines in said figure. Figs. 2 and 3 are front views of the two parts of the fixture shown on the left and right hand sides, respectively, of the windowcasing shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a side view of the part shown in Fig. 2 looking in the direction of arrow at, and Fig. 5 is a side view of the part shown in Fig. 3 looking in the direction of arrow 2).
The object of my invention is to provide a curtain-fixture whose brackets maybe adjusted to fit the curtains to different widths of windows, that may be manufactured cheaply, and which may be easily applied.
Said invention consists in combining with each of said brackets two horizontal baseplates, one at each side of each bracket, extending at right angles therefrom in opposite directions and having longitudinal slots formed therein to receive set-screws for holding said brackets in place after adjustment, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
To enable others to better understand the nature and purpose of my said invention, I will now proceed to describe it more in detail.
In the drawings, A represents the windowcasing, and B B the curtain-fixture, which may be attached to said window-casing by means of the screws C. The part B of the fixture has abracket 0, provided with socket c to receive the plain end of the shade-roller D, (see dotted lines,) and the partB has a bracket (Z, provided with a notch d in its upper edge to receive the spring end of said shade-roller. Said socket 0 projects laterally from the outer end of the bracket 0 and is formed integral therewith by compression of the sheet metal between suitable dies. Each of said parts B Serial No. 55,5 94. (No model.)
and B is provided with two horizontal base plates 6 6, extending at right angles therefrom in opposite directions from said brack= ets c and d, and in each plate is formed a lon gitudinal slot f, extending nearly the whole length thereof, the purpose of said slots being to receive the holding-screws O, which are passed through the same into the windowcasing or other support to hold the devices in place. By this construction it is obvious that the brackets may be securely fastened in position to said window-casing and also may be easily adjusted laterally by simply loosening the screws, so as to permit them to be moved to one side, as desired, and then refastened after adjustment by tightening said screws up again.
Theparts B B are each made of a single piece of sheet metal bent and compressed into the desired shapes, as is shown in Figs. 1 to 5, inclusive.
The essential feature of my invention consists in providing the brackets o d with the right-angle oppositely-projecting base-plates c 6, each having longitudinal slots to receive the set-screws G to admit of the lateral adjustment of the brackets and of fastening them after adjustment.
I am aware that adj ustable fixtures are not new, and therefore limit my invention to substantially the construction described.
Having described said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A curtain-fixture, comprising in combination the shade-roller, the supporting parts B B at each end thereof and means for fastening said parts in position, the parts B B, each consisting of a single piece of sheet metal cut, bent and compressed to form the brackets c, 61 provided respectively with the socket c and notch cl at their outer ends, and of the horizontal longitudinally-slotted base-plates e c, e 6, one at each side of each bracket and projecting at right angles in opposite directions from the inner ends thereof, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
STEPHEN T. NAKASHJIAN.
