Be it known that I, ARTHUR G. lilla'rxins, a citizen of the United States, residing at lvlechanicsburg, in the county of Cumberland and State of Pennsylvania., have invented new and useful Improvements in Shade or Curtain Fixtures, of which the folio ving is a specication.

rhis iir-.f'ention relates to improvements in window shade or curtain fixtures, the primary ebject of the invention being to provide a fixture composed of relatively stationary and adjustable attaching and supporting members, whichV will permit of a relative adjustment between the pair of fixtures secured to the window frame so that shades or curtains of different widths may be supported, the construction being such that the adjustable members may be adjusted in a ready, quick and convenient manner without the necessity of shifting the position of the relatively stationary members on the marring or injuring the woodwork.

A further object of the invention is to provide a shade or curtain fixture which provides for the firm clamping of both the stationary and adjustable members in posi* tion, thus obviating possible casual displacement of the adjustable members and enabling comparatively heavy Vshades or curtains to be supported without the necessity of employing heavy or cumbersome fixtures.

gular bracket plate provided at its ends with integral perforated ears et for the passage of screws or other suitable fastenings 5 to secure thesame in position. This plate is provided with a longitudinal recess G, which opens through its rear side and is substantially V-shaped in cross section, having upper and lower forwardly converging beveled walls?. The plate is also provided in its front with a longitudinal guide slot- 8 of less length than the recess and substantially coextensive in width with the forward or contracted portion of the recess. The rear faces of the ears 4 are fiat to form abutting surfaces to rest against the window frame, and the rear face of the plate is provided with longitudinal abutting surfaces 9 flush with the rear faces of the ears and also adapted to bear flatly against the window frame.

The iixtures are employed as usual in pairs for supporting the ends of a shade or curtain roller at opposite sides of the window frame, the attaching members 2 being extended longitudinally across the face of the frame and secured firmly in position by the screws or fastenings Each member 3 comprises a bracket arm 10 having a shank 1l projecting through and movable in the slot 8 and carrying at its inner or rear end a lug l2 which is inclosed wholly within the recess 6 and is V-shaped in vertical section to conform to the shape of said recess. This lug is provided with beveled upper and lower surfaces 13 to bind against the beveled walls 7 of the recess and with a rear flat abutting face lll normally lying flush with the abutting surfaces 9 to bear therewith against the face of the window frame. Thus when the member 2 is fastened in position the member 3 will be firmly held in adjusted position against shifting movement, as the face 14 of the lug will bind against the window frame, while the binding surfaces 13 of the lug will bear against the coacting binding surfaces 7 of the member 2.

Vilhere the members 3 are employed for supporting a shade roller the bracket portions 10 thereof will be respectively provided with Va round opening to receive the journal at one end of the roller and a rectangular slot or opening to receive the rectangular end of the spring shaft at the opposite end of the roller. In order to relatively adjust the brackets of the supporting members 3 to suit any width of shade roller, it is simply necessary to relax one or both securing screws 5 of each member 2, whereupon the pressure upon the lug 12 will be released, permitting it to be adjusted as desired in the recess, after which by tightening the screwsthe lug will be bound firmly in adjusted position. Hence it will be seen that after the members 2 are once applied in position, no shifting motion or application of the same at different points on the window frame is required for adjusting the fixtures to support diiferent lengths of rollers, whereby marring of or injury to the woodwork is avoided,

In F ig. 4 I have shown a form of supporting member adapted for hanging curtain rollers. In this embodiment of the invention, a U-shaped bracket member 15 is providedto receive the roller and is formed with a shank 16 carrying a lug 17 of the structure before described and adapted for use with an attaching plate of the character disclosed. This supporting member is provided with a bracing arm 18 projecting downwardly and rearwardly at an angle therefrom and carrying at its lower end a bearing plate 19 adapted to engage the face of the frame below t-he lug and attaching member. This bearing member 19 is preferably provided with push pins 2O adapted to be forced by a gentle pressure into the window frame to retain it in position, allowing it, however, to be detached by a slight outward pull when the lug 17 is free for movement in the recess of the attaching member so that the supporting member may bel adjusted as occasion requires. It will, of course, be understood that in order to permit the arms 16 and lugs 17 to be applied to the bracket, the lug is initially formed independent of the arm, and after said arm is passed through the slot 8 in the bracket, the lug is threaded upon, soldered to or otherwise connected with the arm. The arms 18 of the supporting members employed brace the same firmly from the window frame, allowing comparatively heavy curtain rolls to be supported without employing a heavy or cumbersomel type of supporting member. The construction of the attaching member and lug also enables shade supporting members of light weight and comparatively small size to be used for Having thus described the invention, what Y I claim as new is 1. A- fixture of the character described comprising an attaching plate having apertured ears at its ends, a longitudinal slot in its front wall between said ears, a longi-Vv tudinal recess opening through the rear face of said plate, said recess being V-shaped in cross sect-ion and communicating at its front with said slot and providing beveled top and bottom binding surfaces, the rear face of the plate and rearfaces of the ears providing bearing surfaces .flush with each other and adapted to lie snugly against-the window frame, fastening members adapted to be passed through the apertured ears to clamp the att-aching plate in position, and a support-ing member having a shank passing through and adjustable in 'saidl slot and carrying a lug wholly inclosed within and adjustable in said recess, said lug havingV beveled binding surfaces to engage the beveled faces of the recess and a flat rear bearing face bearing against the wall of the window frame, said bearing face normally lying iiush with the bearing faces of the attaching plate when said plate is fully secured inV position, whereby the lug will be clamped in place and whereby upon loosening one `of the fastening members said lug may be adjusted and again clamped by tightening said fastening member. A fixture of the character described comprising an attaching plate having end att-aching means and provided in its front with a longitudinal slot and in its rear with a longitudinal recess, said recess being previded with beveled binding walls, and a supporting member having a shank adjustable in said slot and carrying a lug adjustable in said recess and provided with coacting beveled binding walls, said memberV being also provided with a bracing arm terminating in a bearing plate having projecting pins adapted to be pressed into the face of the window frame.
