UNITED STATES PATENT- OF ICE.
JOHN WARREN, OF BURLINGTON, IOI/VA.
HARDWARE-DRAWER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 510,744, dated December 12, 1893.
Application filed June 8,1893. Serial No. 477,012. (No model.)
To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN D. WARREN, of Burlington, in the county of Des Moines and State of Iowa, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement .in Hardware-Drawers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This improvement relates to store drawers for holding hardware, and consists, in an arrangement of an adjustable partition or strip Within the drawer the drawer having a glass front, whereby a sample of the contentsof the drawer is always in View, protected from dust and moisture by being within the drawer, and behind the glass front, and separated from the contents of the drawer by-the partition or strip to which it is secured, as hereinafter described and claimed.
Figure I is a detail, front elevation illustrative of my invention. Fig. II is a detail, top View of one of the drawers removed. Fig. III is a detail, side view of one of the drawers. Fig. IV is a section of adrawer on line IVIV, Fig. I. Fig. V is a detail, top view illustrating a modification. Fig. VI is a cross section of the form shown in Fig. V.
The drawer is of such form as the nature of its contents and convenience demand, and has the bottom 1 and sides 2 the same as in the ordinary store drawer. In place of the wooden front to the drawer, as in ordinary construction, awooden frame 3 surrounds the front end of the drawer, and a plate of glass 4 slides into this frame in the groove 5 through the slot 6 at one side. A molding 7 makes a facing for this frame 3, and holds the glassat in place, this molding also forming a projecting ledge around the drawer for a step. 'Inside of the drawer is a partition or strip 8, which extends from side to side. This partition or strip is made adjustable within the drawer that it may be moved forward or back, and against its front side is secured the sample 9 of the contents of the drawer, by any clamps consist of brackets 10 secured to the partition or strip 8, and having each a slot 11 in its long arm. Through this slot a set screw 12 extends and screws into a block 13, which is secured to the side 2 of the drawer and forms a guide for the bracket 10 to slide on, the edges of the block 13 being cut out in grooves, and the bracket 10 having ledges to fit in them. The sample is secured to the partition or strip 8, which is then slid forward as far as the glass'will permit and held in place by the screws 12.
A modification of the means of adjusting th e'partition or strip 8, is shownin Figs. V and VI, where the sides 2 have vertical grooves 14 placed at intervals frornthe front, into which the partition or strip 8 slides. This partition or strip 8 may also carry a cover 15 for the protection of the sample from dust, though this is not essential.
I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the bottom 1, the sides 2, the front frame 3 having a glass front 4, the face molding 7 and the adjustable supporting partition 8 extending entirely across the drawer and forming in connection with the front frame a sample compartment separated from the contents of the drawer; substantially as described.
2. The combination in ahardware drawer, of a glass front 4, strip 8, and means for adustably holding the strip, and which consists of slotted brackets 10, blocks 13, and set screws 12; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
J. D. WARREN. In presence of- R. M. GREEN, H. W. GRETZINGER.
