CALEB SANDEL, or Pot HATAN, LOUISIANA.
SHELVING-TRAY FOR BOTTLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 24, 1907'.
Application filed March 28,1907. Serial No- 365.116.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALEB SANDEL, a citizen of the United States, residing "at Powhatan, in the parish of Natchitoches and 5 State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shelving- Trays for Bottles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in shelf trays, and is particularly applicable for use in connection with the arrangement of 15 bottles on shelves.
It is well known to be a source of great inconvenience to merchants retailing goods contained in small bottles or vials, such as required for instance in apothecary shops, to
20 so arrange said bottles or vials in such a manner that they can be readily obtained when desired.
In order to utilize available space, it is necessary in shelving these bottles and vials rows, one back of the other, and this would probably be done in ,such manner that the bottles or vials the more constantly used would be towards the front, and this irrespective of the size of the It is readily seen, therefore, that in order to get at any one bottle, it is necessary not only to know exactly in what tier the same is located, but also its position with respect to the other bottles, and hence in passthe shelves to get at a bottle, there is great liability of others being knocked down and broken.
The object of this invention is to overcome this objectionable feature in such manbe with drawn and the one desired for use selected. To this end I provide a removable tray or box which preferably inclines from the rear to the front, so as to expose the labels of the in the rear, and which box or tray may also be adjustable laterally to compensate for the width of different sized bottles.
\Vhile I do not limit myself to the exact pose of disclosure, reference is had to the accompanying drawings illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention, in which like letters designate the same parts in the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved shelf, tray strated, for the pur' or box. Fig. 2 is a longi section, and Fig. 3 1s a trans line 33 of Fig. 2.
tudinal vertical verse section on the l The box or tray consists of two sections, the side walls a and b of which incline at their upper edges, as shown, from the rear of the box to the front end. Each of these sections is provided with one side wall, a bottom and two end walls, the end wall 0 and d of the section a being provided with projecting upper ends bent over as at e to form slots f to receive and guide the upper edges of the end walls g and h of the section b, the section I) being slightly less in size than the section a and the bottom i of. section I) being adapted to rest on the bottom j of section a. The bottom plate at its forward end may be provided with lip or projecting piece 7c, forming means for withdrawing the tray from the shelf.
In order to provide for the lateral adjustability of the sections to increase or diminish the size of the box, any suitable means may be provided. A simple means is shown in the drawings, wherein the end plates 0 and d are provided with lateral slots Z adapted to l receive the shanks m of pins rigidly secured at their ends, as at n, to the end walls 9 and h,
l and at their other ends screw-threaded to receive a milled binding nut- 0.
From the foregoing description and the drawings, it is readily seen that in actual l practice a tier of bottles may be arranged in l my improved box or tray in such manner j that any bottle may be selected without fumbling around on the shelf, simply by withdrawing the box and locating the bottle, and
at the same time provision is made for the l lateral adjustment of the box so that in shelving the goods allowance may be made for the width of the bottles to be shelved.
Having thus described the invention what j I claim is 1. Means for shelving bottles in rows comj prising a sectional box adapted to receive the one within the other and each section comprising a side wall, two end walls and a botj tom, the end walls of one section being turned over the upper edge of the end walls of the other section to form a tongue and slot sliding connection therebetween to allow the l on' their outer ends to receive a milled bindadjustment of said sections relatively to each ing nut, substantially as described. 10 other, and means for locking said sections in In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature, their adjusted position, comprising pins se- I in presence of two witnesses.
