To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, JOHN VICKLUND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Indicators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in indicators and more particularly to oflice indicators, the object of the invention being to provide an indicator adapted to be applied to an otfice door to indicate whether the occupants are in or out, and if out, at what time they expect to return.

The invention also provides a card receiver in which a visitor ma Y leave a card to let the occupant of the 0 Ce know who called.

Another object of the invention is to provide a time indicator of this character which will possess advantages in points of efliciency and durability, is inexpensive to manufacture and at the same time is simple in construction and operation.

With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction and the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of an oflice indicator constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. t is a detail elevation of the ear having the word In appearing thereon.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 indicates the body of my improved indicator which is provided upon its side edges with the outwardly projecting flanges 2, the upper flange of which is cut away as shown at 3 to form a card receiving case 4 at one end of the body member. The end flanges 2 formed upon the body portion 1 are provided with the outwardly projecting ears 4: having openings 5 formed therein whereby the device may be readily secured to the office door or other conspicuous place by means of screws or any other suitable fastening means.

Arranged at the rear of the body 1 and having its ends secured to the end flange 2 is a guide rod 6, upon which is mounted the indicating member 7, said member comprising an elongated body portion 8 having outwardly projecting ears 9 formed at each end thereof, one of said ears being provided at its upper end with an angular portion 10 having a threaded opening 11 formed therein, in which is mounted a set screw 12. The shank portion of the set screw 12 is slidably mounted within the longitudinal slot 13 formed in the flange at the upper port-ion of the body, said set screw being adapted to be screwed down tight against the flange to hold the indicator in various adjusted positions. Guides 14 are formed upon one face of the ears 9 and are adapted to engage the rod 6 so that the indicator will readily slide thereon. Formed integral with the body portion 8 and projecting downwardly from one end thereof is an indicating arrow 14 which is adapted to project through a longitudinal slit 15 formed in the central portion of the body member 1 so that the arrow will project through on to the front face of the body as shown in Fig. 3.

The body member 1 is provided at its upper edge with a recess 16 through which the ears 9 are visible from the front side of the indicator. Upon one of the ears 9, I have provided the word Out so that when the device is in the position shown in Fig. 1, it will indicate that the occupant of the ofiice is out and at the same time the indicating arrow 14L will point to the time, which is arranged bencath the arrow when the occupant of the oflice will return. Should the occupant already be in his office, the member 8 is pushed upon the rod 6 until the ear 9 upon which appears the word In will be visible through the recess 16, thus indicating that the occupant is already within his oflice.

From the above description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be readily apparent that I have provided a simple and efficient device which will indicate whether or not the occupant of the ofiice is in or out and at the same time if he is out, it will indicate what time he will return. The device is also extremely simple in its construction, can be quickly and readily applied and at the same time is extremely inexpensive of manufacture.

While I have shown and described the preferred form of my invention, it will be obvious that various changes in the details of construction and in the proportions may be resorted to for successfully carrying my invention into practice without sacrificing any of the novel features or departing from the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim is 1. In a device of the character described, the combination of a horizontal elongated body portion, flanges projecting outwardly from the top and bottom edges, said body being provided near its upper edge with a longitudinal opening, a longitudinal guide rod mounted within the body, an indicating member slidably mounted upon the guide rod, said indicating member comprising an elongated body portion having ears formed at each end thereof and projecting at right angles thereto, an angular portion formed at the outer end of one of said ears, means carried by the angularly projecting portion to hold the indicating member in various adjusted positions.

2. In a device of the character described, the combination of a horizontally elongated body having flanges projecting therefrom, a

guide rod mounted at the rear of said body, said body being provided near its upper edge with a longitudinal opening, an indicating member slidably mounted upon the guide rod and comprising an elongated body having angularly projecting ears formed integral at each end thereof and visible through the opening, one of said ears having an angular portion formed at the up per end, the upper flange of the body being provided with a longitudinal slot, a set screw arranged within said longitudinal slot and carried by the angular portion of said ear whereby the indicating member may be adjusted to various positions and held securely in place, said body being provided with a centrally arranged longitudinal slot and an indicating arrow formed integral with the elongated body of the indicating member and projecting through said slot upon the outer side of the body portion as and for the purpose set forth.
