M HUNTER. CLAMP.
APPLICATION FILED IAN G, 1904.
UNITED STATES Patented August 23, 1904.
PATENT OF ICE.
CLAMP. I
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 768,281, dated August 23, 1904.
Application filed January 6, 19041 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARK E. HUNTER, a citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Allegheny, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clamps, of which improvement the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved clampfor glass-constructed show-cases; and it consists in the certain details and arrangement of parts, as will be fully described hereinafter. In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is aperspective view of my improved clamp, the same showing the construction and arrangement of the invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan view taken through one of the angles of a glass show-case, showing my improved clamp in position thereon. Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same. Fig. 4: is a face View of the washer.
' To put my invention into practice, I form from cast metal a body-portion 1, having a recess formed by two parallel walls 1 on the one side and a similar recess 2, formed by the walls 2 and 4:, the whole being joined. to-
gether by a semicircular integral portion 3.
Formed'at the end of the wall 4 is a threaded opening for the reception of a short screw 5 formed with a head 6 A fiat washer (see Fig.
4) is provided, the same consisting of a body portion 9, having a recess 10, adapted to engage with the semicircular portion 3 of the clamp and hold the said washer in position.
In operation the front glass 7 is inserted in the recess 1, the said recess being formed to fit neatly about the glass. The other plate, 7
is inserted in the recess 2, the washer 9 placed Serial No. 187,877. (No model.)
in position, and the screw 5 operated to clamp the said plate firmly therein.
By this construction and arrangement of a clamp it is not necessary to drill holes in the glass for rivets, as is now the common practice, and it is obvious that the recesses for the reception of the plates of glass may be arranged at any angle the one with the other and that slight modifications and-changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention, what I'claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I I 1. A clamp for glass-constructed show-cases or other purposes, consisting of a body por tion having recesses for the reception of the plates of glass, the one recess at an angle with the other, a screw 5 entering one of said recesses and a suitable washer 9, whereby the clamp may be fixed to one of the plates. I 2. A clamp for attaching plates of glass together, consisting of the body portion 1, having recesses 1 and 2, the one recess arranged at an angle with theother, the semicircular connecting-piece 3, the screw 5, the washer 9, having a recess 10, adapted to engage with the portion 3, all arrangedand combined for service, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MARK E. HUNTER.
