Description

Patented Sept. 20,1910.
WITNESSES ATTORNEYS RUDOLF LOSKE, or BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
TOBACCO-PIPE;
Specification of Letters Patent.
. atented Sept. 20, 1910.
- Application filed April 29, 1910. Serial No. 558,339.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RUDOLF LosKn, a citizen of Austria, and residing at Brool lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tobacco-Pipes, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tobacco pipes and the object thereof is to provide a device of this class having improved means for cooling the smoke, and also improved means for cleaning the smoke passages; and with these and other objects in View the invention consists in a device of the class specified constructed as hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters. said drawing being a sectional side view of a tobacco pipe embodying my invention.
In the practice of my invention I provide a pipe of the class specified. comprising a bowl member a having a stem member I) with which is detachably connected the usual mouth piece 0. The bowl member a in front of the bowl (1. is extended. forwardly or enlarged as shown at w, and formed therein are two vertically arranged tubular bores or passages (Z and (Z arranged in a plane which passes centrally through the bowl a and which open upwardly and which are preferably extended below the bore of the stem 7), and said bore 6 of the stem 7) communicates with the lower end portion of the vertically arranged bore or passage (Z above the bottom thereof as shown at if, while an up 'ardly and back wardly directed passage (Z forms a communication between the bottom portion of the bowl a and the lower end of the tubular bore or passage (Z, and said passage (Z communicates with the bowl a slightly above the bottom thereof. The bores or passages (Z and (Z are provided with a metal lining or sleeve 6, and inserted thereinto are tubes f and g, the upper end portions of which are closed and provided with knobs or handles f and g and said tubes f and g are also provided at a predetermined distance below the top thereof with ports or passages f and g, and the partition a the tubular bores or passages (Z and (Z is provided near the top thereof, with a trans verse port or passage it with which the ports or passages f and g in the tubes f and g are adapted to register, and said ports or passages f and g are so arranged that they will register with the port or passage h, in any position in which said tubes may be inserted into the bores or passages (Z and (F, or into the linings c in said bores or passages, and said linings c are also provided with ports or passages corresponding with the ports or passages f, g and 71.
It will be understood that the ports or passages f and 9 need not exactly register with the port or passage h, orv with the corresponding ports or passages in the linings c of the tubular bore or passage (Z but this construction must be such that there will always be a passage from the tube f to the tube 9 at or near the tops thereof.
The operation of my improved pipe will be readily understood from the foregoing description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the following statement thereof.
The smoke passes from the bottom of the bowl a up through the tube in. the bore or passage (l, through the transverse port or; passage It into the tube in the bore or passage cl and downwardly through said tube and into and through the stem Z), and in this operation the smoke is cooled or partially so, and the heat from the bowl a? does not pass directly into the mouth of the smoker.
The object of using the tubes f and 7 is to provide means to facilitate the cleaning of the bores or passages (Z and (Z and in this operation said tubes may be taken out if desired and whenever necessary, and the knobs or handles f and on said tubes facilitate this operation.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;-
A tobacco pipe, the bowl of which is provided at the front thereof with an enlargement having two vertically arranged bores or passages which open upwardly and one of which communicates with the bottom portion of the bowl of the pipe, and the other with the central bore of the stem, said bores or passages being provided with sleeves or linings, and tubes adapted to be passed downwardly into said sleeves or linings and which separates to be removed therefrom and the upper ends 1 of Which are closed and provided with knobs or handles, said partition, said sleeves or linings and said tubes being provided near their upper ends With transverse ports whereby said tubes are placed in eommunication.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as I 1 presence of the subscribing Witnesses this ll) 28th day of April 1910.
RUDOLF LOSKE.
