To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM NAX, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Tobacco-Pipes, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and represented by accompanying drawings.
My invention consists in providing a pipe With a draft-regulator and a nicotine and saliva chamber, the same being constructed of a tube and sleeve which are fitted to each other telesoopically and have openings which are adapted to be placed more or less in communication with each other and With the bore of the stem of the pipe for regulating the draft from the bowl through the mouthpiece, the tube being open at both ends and the sleeve being removable from the tube and having a Chamber at its forward end for receiving the nicotine and saliva, which may be discharged when the sleeve is displaced.

Referring to the drawings, A clesignates a tobaoco-pipe, the bore of its stem B being of greater diameter than is usual in order to reoeive the draft-regulator and niootine and saliva Chamber embodying my invention, the same consisting of the tube E, screwed upon or otherwise secured to the inner end of the mouthpiece D, and provided in its side with one or more openings F and an opening G in its forward end in line with the bore of the mouthpiece, the Chamber H existing when the tube is in place upon said mouthpiece.
J designates a sleeve having one end entirely closed and provided in its periphery with a slot or opening K, the same being telescopically fitted on the tube E, the opening K being adapted to register with either of the openings F in the tube, the said sleeve being of such length or so elongated With respect to the tube that there exists in the forward end thereof the chamber L for the reception and retention of the nicotine and saliva. As the tube E is partly fitted on the mouthpiece and its front end is removed from the front end of said mouthpiece, a space is left in the forward part of said tube, and this I denominate as the Chamber H. As the sleeve J is partly fitted on the tube E and its front end is removed from the front end of said tube, a space is left in the forward part of said sleeve, and this I denominate as the chamber L. The circumferences or diameters of the sleeve and tube with reference to the bore of the stem B are such that a suitable passage-way is left between their respective Walls for the draft and smoke and communication between the bo`wl and mouthpiece.
The operation is as follows: The turning of the sleeve upon the tube opens or closes the openings F, thus regulating the draft. The smoke is drawn from the bowl through the channel M into the bore N, through the space P between the walls'of said bore and sleeve to the openings K 'and F of the said sleeve andtube into the chamber H, and thence through the bore of the mouthpiece to the smoker. VThe saliva and nicotine when the pipe is inclined are directed from the chamber H into chamber L, where they are retained until removed, which may be easily accomplished `by withd'rawing the mouthpiece and displaoing the sleeve.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a pipe a tube adapted to be secured to the inner end of the mouthpiece and communicating therewith and having an opening in its periphery, and in its forward end, and an elongated sleeve partly fitted on said tube and having an opening adapted to register with that in the tube, a chamber being provided between the ends of saidtube and sleeve and communicating with said tube.
