ANTIRATTLER FOR WINDOWS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 2, 19116),
Application filed May 26,1909. Serial No. 498,478.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Emiswon'rrr E. CLARK and AnoLrH Rosnnnnnu, citizens of the United States, both residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Antirattlers for W indows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to window attachments and refers particularly to a device to be applied to the windows for the purpose of preventing the rattling of the same.
The invention has for an object the provision of an improved device which is applicable to window sashes and which is adapted to prevent the rattling of the same should the sashes be loosely mounted within the supporting casing and to provide such a device which may be applied readily to any form of sash construction.
The invention further contemplates the provision of a device of this character which is formed of a -portion of metal bent and stamped or cast into the required shape and which thereby produces an etlicient, durable and compact device.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a window frame and sash mounted in thesame having the improved device applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a vertical horizontal section through the sash and easing disclosing the device as applied thereto, and Fig. 3 is a detailed perspective view of the improved devicet Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawing by the same reference characters. 1
Referring to the drawing the numeral 10 designates an arcuate strip of metal which is provided upon its inner cxtren'iity with a curved lip 11 bent at a slight angle out wardly from the body portion 10 and is provided at its opposite extremity with it turned over portion 12 for forming a grip for the hand of the operator in manipulating the anti-rattler. The strip 10 is laterally curved to form a cam face 13 for the purpose of Wedgmg the frame of the sash '14: between the dividing strip 15 of the casing 16 and the retaining strip 17.
The means employed for supporting the arcuate strip 10 upon the sash 14 comprises a lug 18 which is inwardly extended from the edge of the same and which is offset in wardly in order to engage against the face of the sash 14: and to permit of the extending of the outer end of the strip 10 away from the side of the frame 14 owing to the cam construction of the same.
The overturned portion 12 is curved inwardly to lie in a plane with the inner end ofthe strip 10 and in alinement with the curved lip 11. The device is supported upon the sash l t by means of a suitable screw or pin it) or the like which is engaged through an aperture formed in the lug 18 and secured in the frame of the sash 14: to permitiof the swinging of the lug 18 about the same.
In the drawing the device is disclosed as being applied to the side of the sash 14E and having the curved lip 11 engaged against the inner face of the retaining strip 17 so that when it is necessary to jamb the sash ll within the casing 16 to correct the rattling of the same the operator grasps the outer end of the arcuate strip 10 and forces the same inwardly toward the casing 16- whereby the cam face 13 is forced inwardly and caused to impinge against the inner face of the retaining strip 17 thereby preventing the rattling of the sash 14.
It is ruulily seen that this device may he applied to any portion of the sash which will admit of the j ambing of the same against a fixed member, or it may be applied to any device wherein a cam retaining member is adaptable.
The device, it is observed is stamped from sheet metal or could hecast when the lug 18 and the turned over portion 12 are formed and the lip 11 isvcu rved outwardly.
Ila ving thus described the invention what is claimed as new is:
An anti'-rattler for windows includin an arcuate strip curved longitudinally to orm a cam, anottset lug formed at one edge of said strip for engagement against. the Win- In testimony whereof We affix our signadow t0 pivotaHy supportsaid strip, a lip tures in presence of two Witnesses.
formed upon the inner end of said strip to ELLSWORTH E. CLARK. [Ins] engage between the Window and the frame ADULPH ROSENBERG. fns] therefor, and it turned over portion on the \Vitnesses: outer'end of said strip to support the cam CHARLES E. MARLZLOFF,
and to serve as a handle for said strip. CHAS. F. JEKEL.
