PORTABLE DOOR LOCK. I APPLICATION FILED OUT. 11, 1909.

WILLIAM s. GALLERY, OF sAN DIEGO, AND ALBERT FRANCIS, or DEHESA,
CALIFORNIA.
PORTABLE DOOR-LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 5, 1910.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that we, WILLIAM S. GALLERY and ALBERT FRANCIS, citizens of the United States, residing, respectively, at San Diego, in the county of San Diego and State of California, and Dehesa, in the county of San Diego and State of California, haveinvented a certain new and useful Improved Portable Door-Lock, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a door lock which may be applied to any door without prior preparations, and to lock the door from the inside only, and the objects are to provide a simple door lock which you may carry in your pocket, and further that it may be applied to any door desired, and further may be used as a manicuring instrument as Well. We attain these objects by the apparatus illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a top view of the lock complete, and shown in position with a sectional View of a door and door jamb. Fig. 2 is a top view of the lock itself, and Fig. 3 is a side View thereof, showing the latch in section.
Similar characters of-reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The bar 1 is an ordinary piece of metal curved at its outer end sufficiently to allow the door a to clear the outside end of bar 1, as shown in the drawings, far enough so as not to interfere with the opening and closing of the door when the latch 2 is off. On the jamb side of said bar 1 and on the exereme inner end is a sharp lug l adapted to be pressed into the door jamb when the door is closed against said bar 1, which is preferably made by bending the end of the bar over at the point. Along the top side of said bar 1, is provided a plurality of notches 1, with a straight surface toward the inner end of said bar and inclined on their outer surface. Said bar is also provided on one side with a file surface for filing the finger nails, and
the outside end is sharpened for cleaning the finger nails. Mounted upon said bar is a movable latch 2 adapted to fit over said bar,
and provided with notches 2 on its inner top side adapted to engage with the notches 1 in the bar. On the lower side of the bar and on the inner side of said latch is a spring 2 adapted to rest against the bar 1 and hold the notches 2 in engagement with the notches 1 at all times, there being suflicient space to allow said latch to be sprung to one side, so that it will override the notches 1 when desired. Said latch is also provided with an extending lug 2, which is provided with a hole 2 for a key ring. It will readily be seen .that with this construction the bar 1 may be placed against any door jamb with the lug 1 toward said door jamb, and the door closed on said bar, lug 1*" will be forced into the door jamb, and then the latch 2 placed on the outer end of said bar 1 by pushing the latch 2 on said bar 1 up against the door, the door will be substantially locked, and that by pressing on the lower side of the latch 2, the latch may be again moved to the outer end of the bar 1 and the door easily opened.
Having thus described our invention what we claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- A portable door lock comprising a bar provided with a projecting lug on one side and notches on one edge, and a movable latch mounted thereon provided with notches on one side of its inner surface, adapted to engage with the notches in said bar, and a spring in its opposite side adapted to hold the notches in the latch in engagement with those on the bar, and allow said latch to be moved back and forth on said bar, and a lug on one side of said latch provided with a hole for a key ring, all substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof, we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
WILLIAM S. GALLERY. ALBERT FRANCIS.
