To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, AUcUsTn JEAN Ln- COUTRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Worcester, in the county" of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corsets, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to corsets and particularly to the type of corset shown and described in my U. S. Reissue Letters Patent, No. 12,838, in which there are two pairs of wide straps or bands attached to the corset at the lower front portion thereof, and in which the direction of. the strain is in a substantially horizontal plane.

The object of my invention is to improve upon the construction of corset shown and described in said patent, and more particularly to combine with a downward extension on the front strap of each pair of straps, and also with the lower edge of the corset, at the front of the corset, and preferably directly behind said downward extension, a webbing or strip, attached at one end to the lower edge of the corset, and at its other end to the downward extension on the front strap or band, and preferably in the form of a loop, extending down from the front of the corset, to which loop the upper end of a hose-supporter is connected, and preferably movably connected, all as will be herein after fully described.

My invention consists in certain novel features of construction of my improvements as will be hereinafter fully described.

Referring to the drawing :--Figure 1 is a front View of a corset embodying my improvements. Fig. 2 shows the lower portion of the corset shown in Fig. 1, detached, with the adjusting straps or bands disconnected. Fig. 3 is, on an enlargedscale, a vertical section through the lower part of the front strap or band at the lower part of the corset, and the attached loop at the upper end of the hose-supporter, at a point indicated by line 3, 3, Fig. 1, looking in the direction of arrow a, same figure.

In the accompanying drawing, the corset shown is made in two halves 1, 1, connected by clasps at the front, and lacing, not shown,at the rear,'in the usual way.

the hip section. Each pair of bands 2 and 3 are connected by a buckle connection 4.

5, 5, are two hose-supporters, extending down from the busk or front steel sections.

All of the above mentioned parts may be of the same construction as shown and described in my said Reissue Letters Patent, No. 12,838, except the front straps or hands 2.

I will now describe my improvements.

Each of the front straps or bands 2 has a downward extension 2 thereon, which preferably is of wedge shape. The lower end of said extension 2 does not extend below the lower edge of the corset, but preferably extends to the lower edge of the corset, as shown. To the lower end of the extension 2 of each strap or band 2, is fixedly secured, preferably upon the underside of said extension by stitching, see Fig. 3, one end of a strip or webbing 6. The other end of the strip or webbing 6 is fixedly secured, preferably upon the inner side of the lower edge of the corset, within the binding on the lower edge by stitching, see Fig. 3. hen the corset is in use, the back and front sides of the loop 6 practically overlap each other. The strip or webbing 6, between its ends, hangs down from the lower edge of the corset and the lower end of the extension 2, preferably in the form of-a loop. The upper end of a hose-supporter 5 is connected with the loop formed by the webbing 6, preferably by the loop passing loosely through a loop on a metal connection 7 on the upper end of the hose-supporter, so that the loop 6 may pass freely through the upper part of said connection, and said connection 7 may be free to move on said loop 6.

In my improved construction, by means of the loop of webbing 6, attached to the front adjusting strap or band 2, and to the lower edge of the corset, and also connected with a hose-supporter, the front strap or band 2, and also the edge of the corset, are drawn downwardly by the tension on the hose-supporter in substantially the same vertical direction, and act to produce a fiat front effect.

It will be understood that the details of construction of my improvements may be varied if desired.

It will also be understood that my invenloops 6, the opposite ends of which are permanently secured to the straps 2 and to the lower edge of the corset behind said straps 2, may slide freely in the metal loops or links 7, so that the parts may readily adjust themselves to the movements of the wearer.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A corset having a front adjusting strap, as 2, in combination with a loop, as 6, of suitable flexible textile material, said loop being permanently secured at one end to the lower edge of said adjusting strap and at its other end to the lower edge of the corset 15 behind said strap, and a hose supporter having at its upper end a metal loop or link, as 7, through which said textile loop loosely passes, so that the latter is free to move in the said metal loop or link.
