. LEON HAIN, OF'PHILADESLPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BREAsr-surr'onrnn.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7
Patented Feb. 1 '7, 1914.
Application filed August 28, 1913. Serial No. 787,055
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEON HAIN, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Breast-Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in breast supporters, the object of the invention being to provide a breast supporter which will hold the breasts firmly against the body, but which will prevent any strain or undue pressure upon the breasts at any point.
A further object is to provide a breast Supporter with shoulder straps, and improved means for connecting the shoulder straps with the supporter above the breast pockets in the latter, and at the same time distributing the strains at both sides of the breast pockets.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consistsin certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts as will bemore .fully hereinafter described and pointed out. in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a perspective view-illustrating my im-- provements. Fig. 2 is an exaggerated view in section showing the metal plate 10 secured between the inner and outer thicknesses of material forming the body band, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the plates 10 removed.
My improved breast supporter, comprises a body band 1, composed of two sections connected at the back by lacing 2, and at the front by separable fasteners 3. The band is formed by sewing together an inner sheet 4 and an outer sheet 5, having at desired intervals, vertical stays 6. At the "front of the body band, and at both sides ofits central meeting point, it is enlarged or rounded at its upper edge as shown at 7 and this enlarged front portion is formed with openings 8 in which breast pockets 9 are secured. The pockets 9 are preferably-formed of some knitted or crocheted material which will conform in shape to the shape of the breast and snugly confine the same.
Between the inner and outer sheets 4 and 5, and above the breast pockets 9, metal plates were located. These plates 10 are curved in. conformity to the curvature of the pockets. and are secured by lines of stitching 11 around the edges of the plates. Each plate 10 has an integral hook 12 at, its upper edge, at the center of the plate, *which projects through the outer sheet 5 and is engaged by' a metal loop 13 on the front end of a shoulder strap 14:. The shoulder straps 14 are permanently secured at their rear ends and are preferably provided with adjusting slides 15 to adjust the length thereof.
By reason of the curved plateslO, the strain of the shoulder straps is' deflected around the breast pockets 9 and not across the pocketswhich would be uncomfortable to the wearer and more orless injurious.
In other words, the plates-compel the mate-' rial of the body band 1 at both sides of the breast pockets to sustain the strain of the shoulder strap connection and there is no straight pull at any one point.
Various slight changes might be made in the general form and arrangement of parts described without departing from my invention, and hence 'I do not limit myself to the precisedetails set forth, but consider myself at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I'claim as new and desire'to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A breast supporter comprising a band separably connected at the front and consisting of an inner and outer sheet sewed together, breast pockets located in the band at the front, shoulder straps secured to the band at the back, and'metal plates,'located between the two sheets forming the band, and positioned'above the pockets, said metal plates curving in conformity to the curvature of the pockets and having hooks at their centers, said hooks projectin through the band and to which the shoul er straps are adapted to v-beconnected, substantially as described.
, 2. A breast supportercomprisin a body band composed oftwo sections a justably connected at the back of the band, and separably connected at the front, breast pockets located in the band, and said band at its upper edge curved upwardly above the pockets, metal plates secured to the band in said upwardly curved portion and curving in conformity to the curvature of the pockthe sheets and outlining the plates, substanl0 ets, hooks on the central portion of said tially as described. plates, shoulder straps secured to the back Intestimony whereof I have signed my of the band and having means for attachname to this specification in the presence of 5 ment to said hooks, said band composed of two subscribing witnesses.
an inner and outer sheet sewed together, a LEON HAIN. said plates located between said sheets and Vitnesses: having their hooks projecting through the M; E. DnrUs,
outer sheet, and lines of stitching through CHAs. E. Po'r'rs.
