To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, LEONARD E. SoHooH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved Garment-Supporter, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of the invention is to provide a new and improved garment-supporter, more I especially designed as a suspender or as a hosesupporter, which is simple and durable in construction and arranged to insure ready selfadjustment of the parts on the wearer bending the body, to give the utmost comfort to the wearer, and to reduce the strain on the webbing and other parts to a minimum.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter and then 2 pointed out in the claims.

A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate cor- 2 5 responding parts in all the views.

Figure l is a face view of .the improvement as applied to a suspender, a part being broken out. Fig. 2 is a rear face view of the same, a part being broken out. Fig. 3 is a perspective 3 view of the improvement, and Fig. A is an enlarged cross-section of the same on the line 4 4 of Fig. 1.

The straps A A shown in the drawings may be the shoulder-straps of a pair of suspenders or the supporting-straps of a hosesupporter, and the ends of the said straps areformed into forks A A, between which extend the ends of a link B, preferably made of metal covered by leather or other suitable 4 material, the link having eyelets B, through which passes a lace C, of leather, cord, or like material, the lace also passing through openings AA registering with the eyelets B, so-

that the lace forms the pivotal connection between the strapsA A and the link B. The

lace C also passes through eyelets D D,

formed in the head E of an end F, which may be the rear suspender-end or the hose-supporter end carrying clasps or the like for en- 5 gaging the hose.

The eyes D D are spaced apart, and the head E is preferablyreinforced by a covered stiff plate E, through which extend the eyelets D D. The ends of the lace O are fastened together by a suitable fastener or coupling 0 of any approved construction.

As shown in the drawings, the lace strands between the straps A A and the head E extend diagonally and cross each other, so as to readily yield to the movements of the wearers body, thereby relieving the straps and the end of undue strain, at the same time insuring the utmost comfort to the wearer.

The diagonal strands of the lace O are doubled, and one of the doubled strands passes 5 between the members of the other doubledstrand, as will be readily understood by reference to Fig. 3, to prevent undue friction of the crossing strands when sliding one on the other. 7 0

Now by the arrangement described it will be seen that the lace O and the link B forms a flexible connection between the straps AA and the end F, and the lace C as well as the link B are free to move into desired positions according to the movement of the wearers body, so that the parts readily adjust themselves and all undue strain is prevented.

By the equalizing connection described the straps AA when forming suspender shoulder- .30 straps are held close to the shoulders of the wearer when one shoulder is elevated and the other lowered, as the equalization takes place at the said connection, and hence each shoulderstrap remains in firm contact with its shoulder 5 no matter what position the shoulder may assume. In a like manner the equalizing connection does not affect the trousers or hose to which the end F is attached, and hence all undue strain on the trousers-button or on the hose 9 is avoided, as the strain is taken up by the pivotal cross-bar B.

An exceedingly durable connection between the link, straps, and head is formed by the use of a single lace or cord, the ends of which are fastened together as described.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. A connection for the spaced members of a garment-supporter, comprising a link piv- 0 otally connected with the ends of one member, and a lacing connecting the link at its pivots with spaced eyes on the-other member, as set forth. a

2. A connection for the members of a garment-supporter, comprising a link pivotally connected with the ends of one member, and a lacing connecting the link at its pivots with spaced eyes on the other member, the strands of the said lacing crossing each other diagonally, as set forth.

3. A connection for the members of a garment-supporter, comprising a link 'pivotally connected with the ends of one member, and a lacing connecting the link at its pivots with spaced eyes on the other member, the strands of the said lacing being doubled and crossing each other diagonally, one set of strands passing between the members of the other set of strands, as set forth.

4:. A garment-supporter comprising a pair of separate straps, a link pivotally connecting the straps with each other, a suspending end spaced from the straps and link, and a lacing engaging the straps and links at their pivotal connection and connected with the said suspending end, as set forth.

5. A garment-supporter comprising a pair of straps, a link engaging forks in the ends of the straps, a suspending end having a head provided with spaced eyelets, and a lacing extending through the eyelets and through registering openings in the said link and the said straps, as set forth.

6. A garment-supporter comprising a pair of straps, a link engaging forks in the ends of the straps, a suspending end having ahead provided with spaced eyelets, and a lacing extending through the eyelets and through registering openings in the said link and the said straps, the said lacing extending diagonally from each strap to an eyelet of the said head, as set forth.
