IMPROVEMENT m SUSPENDERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 190,516, dated May 8,1877; application tiled March 3,1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LEONARD V. RICHMOND, of Sand Lake, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Suspenders, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a rear perspective view of my improved suspenders, shown in position for use. Fig. 2 is a detail View of a portion of the same enlarged.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish suspenders without elastic or springs, which shall be so formed as to cause no perceptible strain upon the buttons in any position the body of the wearer may take, which may be made very light, and which will be as easy to the wearer when old as when new.
The invention consists in the combination of the cross-strap and the back-strap with each other, and with the front straps and the side straps, as hereinafter fully described.
A are the front straps, which pass over the shoulders, and the forward ends of which are buttoned to the front of the waistband.
With the rear ends of the straps A, at the back of the shoulders of the wearer, are connected the upper ends of the 'side straps B, which pass beneath the arms, and their other ends are buttoned to the side parts of the waistband.
With the straps A B, at their point of meeting, are connected the ends of the cross-strap O, which rests against the upper part of the back, and with the middle part of which is connected the upper end of the strap D. The
-D passes down the center of the back, and its lower end is buttoned to the rear .part of the waistband.
The free ends of the straps A B D are provided with button-straps and buckles, in the usual way, to enable them to be lengthened and shortened, as required. The straps A B O, at their point of meeting, may be connected by triangular metal loops, if desired, or they may be sewed to each other.
\Vith this construction, whatever position the body of the wearer may take, the tautness of some of the straps will take up the slack of the others, so that there will be no perceptible strain upon any of the buttons.
Having thus described my invention,'I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent A suspender having front straps A, side straps B, connecting straps O, and-dorsal strap D, combined and arranged as shown and described, for the purpose specified.
